Job description

This position is responsible for developing and facilitating professional development, training, and website content on Digital Learning topics for Minnesota adult educators. This position will collaborate with other professional development providers, provide support for online course development, and support the statewide Digital Learning and Technology Support team with a variety of tasks including distance learning platform approvals and communications.

This position reports to the Senior Manager for Educational Technology and Digital Literacy.

Work environment consists of a typical office environment. Time spent on the computer is approximately 90%. Travel: occasional travel within Minnesota. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
This position is full time and benefit eligible.

Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) administration and user support

  • Manage the Canvas LMS implementation for the Minnesota adult education professional development system
  • Provide support to MN adult education Canvas users (both course developers and participants)

Online Course Development and Facilitation

  • Develop and facilitate online asynchronous professional development courses using the Canvas LMS, on Digital Learning topics of interest to Minnesota adult educators
  • Collaborate with course developers at partner organizations to identify and share best practices for asynchronous course design

Communications

  • Assist with content management on the MN adult education distance learning website
  • Write newsletter articles on Digital Learning topics for the MN ABE Connect professional development newsletter
  • Lead the proxy hour approval process for distance learning platforms and teacher-created courses
  • Monitor changes in Minnesota and federal adult education Distance Learning policy, news, and distance learning platforms, and communicate updates to stakeholders.

Training & Professional Development

  • Evaluate and provide training on distance learning platforms and other Digital Learning resources for Minnesota adult educators
  • Create training materials and documentation where necessary
  • Lead professional development activities for Minnesota adult educators on Digital Learning topics
  • Provide support for in-person and online professional development events, such as hosting webinars and facilitating panel presentations

Other

  • Assist with special projects as needed and as time allows.
  • Assist with program evaluation and preparation of semi-annual grant reports.
  • Attend regular staff and department meetings. Attend other meetings as requested. Other duties as assigned.
  • Support organizational DEI goals by fostering an inclusive environment, and actively participating in and achieving organizational and personal DEI goals.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or related field plus minimum 1-year of work experience in an educational and/or nonprofit setting; or equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Proficient in computer use, including MS Office programs, Google applications, and online meeting software.
  • Familiarity with distance learning platforms, the Canvas learning management system, and online meeting software.
  • Experience and/or knowledge of Adult Basic Education.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate challenging and diverse tasks in an efficient manner. Ability to problem solve and multi-task.
  • Understand needs, strengths and barriers confronting adult learners who may be low-income, unemployed, and/or refugees/immigrants.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience developing online courses using a learning management system.
  • Ability to occasionally work a flexible schedule.
  • Demonstrated DEI-focused work style, including engagement in organizational and personal DEI goals.
