State Tax Analyst

YOUR ROLE
As a Finance team member, you'll play a key role in supporting the financial strength and flexibility that enables us to be there when our policyholders need us - now and in the future. The tax department of Genworth is looking for a State Tax Analyst to join our growing team. You will be responsible for ensuring the highest degree of accuracy, timeliness, and accountability while preparing premium tax estimates and returns, property tax filings and payments, municipal tax returns and payments and state income tax and franchise tax returns and payments. You will work with a cross-functional team of tax professionals as well as business partners to ensure the highest level of quality in our tax compliance and reporting processes. We are committed to building tax technical, analytical, and business skills of our professionals and have a robust training program.
What you will be doing
- Prepare premium tax estimates and annual returns and payments for multiple entities and states and workpapers as well as needed accounting entries
- Prepare property tax filings and assessment payments for multiple entities and states and workpapers as well as any needed accounting entries
- Prepare state and local income tax and franchise tax estimates and annual returns and payments for multiple entities and states and workpapers as well as any need accounting entries
- Responsible for supporting all state audits, including responses to inquiries and correspondence from various tax jurisdictions
- Analyze and reconcile general ledger tax accounts and prepare internal reporting
- Responsible for state correspondence related to audits, notices and assessments
- Reconcile data between systems to ensure integrity and accuracy in reporting and filing
- Assist in special projects, as needed
What you bring
- AS or BS in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 1-2 years of experience in tax accounting, compliance and/or reporting
- Basic knowledge of State Tax compliance processes
- Basic understanding of GAAP and ASC 740
- Proven ability to communicate both verbally and written
- Ability to effectively work independently in a flexible environment
- Ability to adapt to changes in business needs and respond quickly
- Proven track record in improving efficiency and effectiveness in processes and tasks
- Strong analytical skills, detail oriented with excellent organizational skills
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize and complete projects in a timely manner
