Position Summary:
This is an entry-level field auditor position within Audit Services, State and Local Tax Audit Group. The field auditor makes a valuable contribution towards the Kansas Department of Revenue's (KDOR) mission to collect taxes, fairly, professionally, accurately and efficiently. Field audits and other interactions with taxpayers allows the State of Kansas to encourage voluntary compliance. The primary duties and responsibilities involve auditing companies conducting business within the State of Kansas. These audits ensure compliance obligations are met as governed by Kansas tax statutes and regulations. The Auditor is responsible for scheduling audits with taxpayers, traveling to the taxpayer's location, examining and analyzing taxpayer's records, conducting research on tax issues, making taxability determinations using generally accepted sampling techniques including statistical sampling, and maintaining written record of procedures performed and taxpayer interaction. Position requires overnight travel based on agency needs. Employee is eligible for hybrid teleworking and a promotional opportunity after training.
Qualifications:
Education: Minimum of 12 college semester hours of accounting courses.
Minimum Qualifications: Two years of experience in examining internal work processes, financial and operational records and controls to assess effectiveness, accuracy of records and compliance with statutes, regulations and professional/legal standards. Education in accounting/auditing, business administration, or economics may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.
Licensing & Certification: Incumbent is required to have and maintain a valid driver's license to perform the essential functions of this position.
Preferred Education: Prefer graduate from accredited 2 or 4 year college or university, with major course work in accounting.
Preferred Skills: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Lotus Notes, proofreading, editing, and attention to detail.
Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements: KBI and FBI fingerprint required due to access to Federal Tax Information files in KDOR systems.
