Job description

When you join Verizon
Verizon is one of the world's leading providers of technology and communications services, transforming the way we connect around the world. We're a human network that reaches across the globe and works behind the scenes. We anticipate, lead, and believe that listening is where learning begins. In crisis and in celebration, we come together-lifting up our communities and striving to make an impact to move the world forward. If you're fueled by purpose, and powered by persistence, explore a career with us. Here, you'll discover the rigor it takes to make a difference and the fulfillment that comes with living the #NetworkLife.
What you'll be doing...
As a member of Verizon's Technology Strategy, Architecture & Planning team, you will drive standardization in the Automotive and Intelligent Transportation ecosystems. As an external-facing standards delegate, you will shape and be the "Verizon Voice" in leading industry groups (5GAA, ETSI ITS, SAE, GSMA, etc.) and collaborate with experts in related standards organizations (3GPP, ITU-R/ITU-T, Open RAN). This is a high visibility role with direct opportunity to contribute to improving road safety, efficiency and sustainability in collaboration with top auto-OEMs, tier-1s and other innovators while leveraging Verizon's world-leading 5G Network. In this role, you will be responsible for:
  • Representing Verizon externally as an industry (standards) delegate.
  • Improving utilization of Verizon capabilities in technology standards to improve road-safety, road efficiency and sustainability.
  • Actively partnering with internal teams (Corporate & Technology strategy, public policy, Business development, Product, etc.) to steer alignment with business and technology objectives.
  • Analyzing and defining technology architectures to match strategic priorities and objectives, using data insights, and Verizon 5G capabilities (uRLLC, mMTC, C-V2X platforms, etc.).

What we're looking for...
You'll need to have:
  • Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience developing 4G/5G solutions for Automotive, Connected Mobility or Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) in a R&D, product, or engineering capacity.
  • Experience with current C-V2X standards, for example: SAE [J3161, J2735], IEEE 1609/WAVE, 3GPP Rel-14+.
  • Extensive 4G/5G wireless network technology experience.
  • Willingness to travel up to approximately 25-50% of the time (including international).

Even better if you have one or more of the following:
  • Advanced degree in a related field, for example: Electronics Engineering or Computer Science.
  • Experience as a wireless industry delegate or standardization engineer.
  • Experience with IoT/Telematics certification standards: OmniAir, GCF, Global Platform, PTCRB.
  • Familiarity with Automotive Wireless chipset and eSIM technology.
  • Experience with 5G "Advanced" capabilities and architecture.
  • Understanding of AI/ML fundamentals and ability to architecturally leverage.
  • Knowledge of Python, R, or modern scripting languages.
  • Familiarity with Regulatory and public policy for Intelligent Transportation Systems and C-V2X.
  • ASN1/ISO X.680.
  • Strategic mindset with ability to quickly interpret and extract insights from data.
  • Ability to clearly document, propose and iterate on technology architectures.
  • Excellent communications skills along with strong negotiation and public speaking skills.
  • Excellent time-management and organizational skills.
  • Collaborative mindset rooted in professionalism and integrity.

"If Verizon and this role sound like a fit for you, we encourage you to apply even if you don't meet every "even better" qualification listed above."
