Job Description:
Schnabel Engineering is seeking a Staff or Senior Staff Geotechnical Engineer (0 to 5 years of professional experience) in our Blacksburg, Virginia office. We are looking for a motivated candidate to join our collaborative team and work on projects across the country as well as close to home.

Job Responsibilities:
- Plan, coordinate, and manage geotechnical field work
- Communicate effectively with subcontractors, project managers, and clients
- Log test borings and prepare boring logs
- Review boring logs and material classifications
- Assign, perform, and review laboratory tests
- Interpret data and perform design calculations
- Develop plans and figures using CAD and GIS programs
- Assist in preparation of geotechnical proposals and reports
- Observe geotechnical-related construction and prepare daily observation reports
Required Skills/Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related major from an ABET-accredited program
- 0-5 years of professional experience
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Willingness and ability to perform field work and travel, including assignments that may last several weeks away from the office.
- Ability to multi-task
- Strong work ethic and a desire for continual self-improvement
- Ability to lift 60 pounds and physically be able to negotiate construction sites, enter trenches, climb ladders, and work outside
Desired Skills/Experience:
- EIT certification
- Completion of geotechnical-focused undergraduate and/or graduate level coursework
- Prior internship or professional work in a related field
- AutoCAD Civil3D, OpenGround, and/or GIS experience
Other Requirements:
- Ability to pass a background check which may include criminal history, motor vehicle record and credit check
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening
