EAD is looking for a Staff Structural Engineer with knowledge of structural design and engineering techniques to work closely on assigned projects from planning, preliminary design, front end engineering, preparation of drawings and tender documents, tender evaluation, project management, contract administration, construction support, liaison with local authorities and as-built documentation.
Responsibilities
- Conduct independent work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures and criteria
- Independently apply knowledge of structural principles and practices in broad areas of assignments
- Use advanced techniques in the modification or extension of theories and disciplines to complete assignments
- Devise new approaches to problems, and prepare or modify drawings, specifications, calculations, charts and graphs, and monitor work for compliance to applicable codes, accepted engineering practices and EAD standards
- Perform structural design and analysis calculations using governing codes and standards, engineering formulas, skills and experience
- Detail portions of projects using schematic or conceptual layouts
- Responsible for quality and delivery of construction documentation
- Assume the lead engineer's role on assigned projects
- Use computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering design documents
- Perform field activities such as observe and record existing field conditions, take and verify measurements within project area
- Ensure that on-site construction work is carried out according to local regulations and requirements
- Perform structural engineering calculations, plans, designs, layouts, and project specifications
- Complete structural engineering portion of project proposals and construction cost estimates
- Provide conceptual drawings and sketches to incorporate in final drawings by Designers/Drafters
- Coordinate work with other disciplines such as architectural, mechanical, electrical, etc.
- Coordinate work with other structural engineering and design staff
- Manage and perform projects in a fast-paced environment
- Manage time and prioritize tasks to achieve results within cost and schedule constraints
- Interface with clients, utility companies, construction administrators, contractors and vendors
- Responsible for adhering to all EAD's safety standards and practices
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Requirements:
- B.S. Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering from an accredited institution
- 6 years experience in Structural Engineering design and structural drafting practices and procedures
- Licensed Professional Engineer
- 3 years of experience with Staad Pro or equivalent finite element analysis software experience
- 3 years of experience working with multi-discipline teams
- 3 years previous project engineer or group leader experience
- Knowledge of building codes and NFPA standards
- Ability to lead projects and people
- Working knowledge of excel including macros
- Excellent written and verbal skills with clients & in-house staff
- Ability to develop business opportunities
- Demonstrated independent worker requiring minimal direction
- Able to set priorities and organize work to meet project deadlines and budgets
- Self-starter with strong attention to detail
- Possess organizational skills
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit
- Possess and able to maintain a valid driver's license
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
Preferred Certifications and skills:
- Experience in working with Bioprocess and/or Petrochemical Clients, construction of large industrial plants, or power stations will be advantageous
Working Conditions:
- Office, plant, or client site environment*
- Ability to sit and work at computer for extended periods of time
- Ability to walk up numerous flights of stairs/ladders multiple times a day and/or work in tight spaces in extreme conditions
- May work near moving mechanical parts and equipment*
- Office, Commercial and/or Industrial setting with the potential of exposure to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals*
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.*
- Periodic weekend, holiday or evening work as needed
- Travel required
