Job description

Johnson & Johnson MedTech is recruiting for a Staff Human Factors Engineer, located in Redwood City, CA.
At Johnson & Johnson MedTech, we're changing the trajectory of health for humanity, using robotics to enhance healthcare providers' abilities and improve patients' diagnoses, treatments, and recovery times. Johnson & Johnson Robotics was established in 2020 with the integration of Auris Health, Verb Surgical, C-SATS, and Ethicon. It comprises three key med-tech platforms: Flexible Robotics (MONARCH®), Surgical Robotics (OTTAVA™), and Digital Solutions. Join our collaborative, rapidly growing teams in the San Francisco Bay Area (Redwood City and Santa Clara), Cincinnati, and Seattle. You'll collaborate on breakthrough medical technologies that unite multiple subject areas to build a connected digital ecosystem that advances medical professionals' skills and improves patient outcomes.
Overview
You will join the Human Factors & Experience Design (HFXD) team and help shape the high-profile, flexible robotics platform, MONARCH®.
As a Staff Human Factors Engineer, you will be a leader for Human Factors on our team. In practice, this means you will be responsible for managing complex HF workstreams as the primary individual contributor, which will often involve providing direction to less experienced team members. As a seasoned HF practitioner, you will also contribute to the continuous improvement of our methods and processes. Mentoring and coaching are important parts of our culture, and you'll help grow our HF talent in partnership with fellow HF leaders.
To ensure the Human Factors group is set up for success, you will work closely with the Human Factors manager to advise on resourcing and prioritization activities.
Responsibilities:

  • Lead complex Human Factors work, using best-in-class methodologies to inform rigorous decision-making.
  • Lead usability and validation-related activities such as large Human Factors studies assessing critical workflows end-to-end in simulated environments.
  • Continuously improve our HF process to align it with best practices while also customizing it for the specific realities of our business.
  • Collaborate with the HF manager to ensure critical work is adequately resourced and review time is factored in.
  • Partner with senior leaders and HF manager to develop longer-term vision for Human Factors across the products and systems our team supports.
  • Mentor and coach less experienced HF engineers, developing their Human Factors expertise as well as their ability to be effective contributors in an enterprise setting.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners from various disciplines to execute deliverables and develop an internal company network.
  • Manage and coordinate work of external vendors.

Qualifications
Qualifications
Required:
•A minimum of bachelors degree
•A minimum 6 years' Human Factors / usability engineering experience
  • Use case validation testing or equivalent experience in product development and customer interactions

•Experience in the planning and execution of all aspects of the HFE process including formative and summative studies, documentation for design control and risk management
  • Strong knowledge of Human Factors principles; task and risk analysis methods, human perception, and cognition; basic knowledge of anthropometrics, biomechanics, and physiology
  • Experience consolidating user feedback into concise, meaningful design insights and actionable recommendations is required
  • Experience performing root cause analysis for use-related problems is required
  • Experience partnering with R&D, Marketing and Development teams to define and act as a guardian in upholding the best usability practices

Preferred:
  • Post-Graduate Degrees (MS, PhD)
  • Familiarity with FDA, ISO, AAMI, and other relevant usability regulations and standards preferred.
  • Medical Device product development or experience working in a highly regulated industry

Ability to travel up to 10%, domestic and international is required.
