The Staff Engineer position for the Highway and Bridge Maintenance Division will be responsible to provide technical support for maintenance projects by preparing designs, specifications and cost estimates for projects, support coordination with contractors or in-house crews, conduct site inspections and prepare technical reports. The duties include, but are not limited to: plan development and preparation, project cost estimation, construction specifications preparation, construction site inspections and documentation, project documentation, invoice review, vendor submittal review, map preparation, geographical information systems (GIS) database development and Maintenance, plan review among others.
Performs a variety of engineering tasks as an intern.
Works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.
Requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in an engineering field related to the area of assignment.
Preferences
* Construction Management Certificate.
* Florida Professional Engineer (PE) License.
* At least one (1) year of experience using AutoCAD or MicroStation in a roadway and/or bridge maintenance or construction environment.
* At least one (1) year of experience with GIS in a roadway and/or bridge maintenance or construction environment.
* At least one (1) year experience using Florida Department of Transportation Design Standards, Plans Preparation Manual or FDOT Standard Roadway and Bridge Construction Specifications, and/or Experience preparing specifications for construction.
* At least one (1) year experience in maintenance and repair of roadway and/or bridges on state/local roads.
* At least one (1) year experience with concrete structures.

Provides engineering support in the design and review of a wide variety of engineering projects.
Collects and processes engineering related data; prepares project scope of work, schedule, and design; performs geographical information system (GIS) analysis, produces maps, and maintains geodatabases.
Reviews application packages for new projects and modifications to existing sites, which include engineering construction plans, calculations, surveys, geo-technical reports, and legal documentation against County and State codes.
Prepares technical review comments and requests additional information from engineers and property owners for revisions to calculations and plans; prepares technical reports with project specific information, license conditions, engineering data, and calculation summaries.
Reviews engineering construction certifications and surveyed plans for compliance with County and State codes; performs site inspections for construction compliance and identify deficiencies in inspection reports.
Communicates with developers, attorneys, engineers, banks, and the general public for the purpose of reviewing construction plans and specifications and the issuance of permits; performs research to respond to queries and complaints.
Reviews permit applications and contractor licenses for accuracy and validity; upon determination that the information is accurate, enters into the County's database and construction permits are thereafter issued.
May review plans for compliance with County and Florida Department Of Transportation (FDOT) standards and specifications.
