Who You Are…

As Staff Attorney, you will be responsible for providing day-to-day legal services to branch and corporate department clients, with a focus on the Company’s owner direct relationship (“ODR”) customers and strategy. This person will work directly with the General Counsel and Senior Attorneys to provide legal advice and represent the Company and its interests in relevant matters. The ideal candidate should have preferred practice history as in-house counsel for a sophisticated building owner/builder, developer, or construction manager.

This Position…

Some examples of the work you might do includes:

  • Advises internal branch and corporate department clients on various matters such as risk, risk avoidance and mitigation, legal rights and remedies, legal obligations, new and existing laws, and application thereof to the Company’s operations.
  • Conducts legal research and analysis and devises the Company’s litigation strategy pertaining to legal actions, as well as means to satisfactorily avoid legal action.
  • Partners with a Company senior paralegal to evaluate upstream contracts in accordance with Company policies and supports branches' negotiations with customers.
  • Reviews and comments on requested changes to the Company’s standard upstream and downstream documents and supports branches' negotiations with customers, subcontractors and suppliers requesting changes. This will be the largest aspect of the role.
  • Provides guidance and support to General Counsel and other executives with respect to ODR initiatives and strategies.
  • Provides guidance and counsel to senior management and branch clients with respect to ODR sales, negotiations and dispute matters.
  • Provides guidance and counsel to corporate department clients regarding pertinent legal issues, including employment, legal and regulatory compliance, contract performance and claims.
  • Actively manages branch claims and financial pursuits, including disputed change orders, and delay and impact claims.
  • Actively engages with and supervises the Company’s paralegals with respect to matters pertaining to her/his tasks and responsibilities.
  • Engages, collaborates with, and oversees outside counsel representing the Company.
  • Investigates legal and risk issues arising in the course of the Company's operations, consults with involved personnel, and develops and communicates recommended strategies and solutions to resolve those issues.
  • All other duties as assigned.

What You Need…

  • Licensed in good standing in at least one state where the Company maintains an active office.
  • At least 8 years of practice in related fields, preferably with building owners and or experience with a general contractor or construction manager.
  • Resides near one of the Company’s active office locations.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to work independently.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Licensed in Florida or Pennsylvania.
  • Resides near corporate department office in Orlando or Tampa, FL.
  • 10-15 year’s experience, with at least 5 -7 year’s experience as in-house counsel for a sophisticated building owner/builder, developer, or construction manager.
  • Some exposure to transactional or public company legal issues.

Work Environment:

  • This position operates primarily in a professional office environment, and routinely utilizes standard office equipment, such as computers, phones, copiers, filing cabinets, and printers.
  • Work tasks may occasionally necessitate travel to local job sites, which means intermittent exposure to the conditions typically associated with a shop environment or construction site.

Physical Demands:

  • In performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, perform repetitive motion, and possess an appropriate degree of both visual acuity and manual dexterity.
  • This is considered a sedentary position, which means possible exertion up to ten (10) pounds of force occasionally, and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
