The National Center for Disaster Preparedness at Columbia University in the City of New York invites applications for a Staff Associate III (SAIII) who will utilize analytical skills in support of complex problems, with limited supervision. They will provide independent judgement in support of research activities related to disaster preparedness and response efforts within the NCDP. Reporting to the Director of NCDP, this position will:
Duties and Responsibilities will include:
- Research scientific literature on disaster preparedness, response and recovery issues, as well as gray literature and media reports, and policy actions.
- Lead analysis to translate research into presentations, articles and talking points for the Director of NCDP based on research conducted.
- Support project efforts for other disaster projects and initiatives as assigned.
- Provide guidance and directions for new research staff on assigned projects, and necessary research approaches.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Public Policy and related field and at least 4-6 years of experience. A Master's degree in Public Health, Public Policy, or related field is preferred and may substitute up to 2 years of experience.
- Knowledge of disaster risk management and understanding of how functions inter-relate and support the broader field of disasters research.
- Experience working in a disaster or humanitarian setting.
- Strong writing and presentation skills.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and with rapidly shifting priorities.
- Experience drafting research summaries for public articles or presentation is preferred.
Appointments are made on a fiscal year basis and are eligible for renewal each July 1st, contingent upon performance and funding.

The starting salary for this role is $75,000-$75,000.
