Job Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Staff Accountant with non-profit experience to join our team. The Staff Accountant will be responsible for assisting with various financial tasks, including bookkeeping, financial management, payroll, tax preparation, and providing support to the finance department, ensuring compliance with accounting principles and company policies. Partnering with HR is a must for maintaining the accrual system. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of double-entry bookkeeping, debits and credits, and accrual accounting. Responsibilities:
- Perform day-to-day bookkeeping activities, including recording financial transactions, maintaining general ledgers, and reconciling accounts
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes
- Prepare financial statements and reports for management review
- Conduct regular audits to ensure accuracy and compliance with established accounting principles
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities
- Process purchase orders
- Collaborate with external auditors during annual audits
- Stay up-to-date with changes in tax laws and regulations
- Provide support for various ad-hoc financial projects
Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (or equivalent experience)
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar role
- Strong knowledge of double-entry bookkeeping principles and practices
- Proficiency in financial management software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP)
- Familiarity with payroll processing and tax preparation
- Experience with technical accounting topics (e.g., revenue recognition, lease accounting)
- Knowledge of accrual accounting principles
- Understanding of governmental accounting standards is a plus
- Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills
