Steamboat Springs School District is seeking a qualified Staff Accountant to join the District office team.

Entry Pay Range: $26.35- $29.04, depending on experience, upto 7 yrs experience considered. This position is a year round position-233 Work Days. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Process requisitions and correctly code all charges. Process purchase orders for District funds.
  • Manage and assist with requisition processing, including online requisition form processing, training staff, and managing database.
  • Enter invoices, print and mail checks.
  • Process all purchase orders for payment.
  • File all checks, receipts and accounting reports.
  • Track and research all invoices.
  • Maintain accurate vendor files.
  • Maintain accurate tax reporting information and issue year-end 1099 reports.
  • Assist vendors and schools with billing questions.
  • Count and record all cash and checks received for all funds.
  • Prepare cash receipts journal for approval by the Director of Finance and Operations.
  • Deposit all funds into bank accounts.
  • Record all receipts into financial system.
  • Prepare and enter necessary journal entries.
  • Monitor school activity accounts.
  • Educate and inform staff of applicable State and Federal regulations of tax reporting.
  • Act as liaison between school staff and district administration office.
  • Oversee bookkeeping accounting functions at all locations.
  • Perform other miscellaneous State reporting as needed.
  • Assist the Director of Finance and Operations in preparing audit work papers as needed.
  • Assist in the office as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma is required. Accounting education and or Bachelor's Degree in a related field preferred.
  • Accounting experience strongly preferred.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel) as well as Google suite knowledge
  • Knowledge of general accounting principles and standards
  • High attention to accuracy and detail
  • Ability to troubleshoot basic computer workstation/network situations
  • Ability to work well with staff, the Board and the general public.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Decision Making: An example of a typical decision made by an individual in this position is to interpret policies/procedures and best practice. An incorrect decision made by this position could impact the district legally causing financial condition of district to be effected. Errors made in decision-making could potentially result in substantial cost to the District or damage the credibility of the District.
Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general professional journals, technical procedures and governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond professionally to questions from groups of parents, community members, commissions, colleagues and Board of Education.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as interest, discounts, commissions, proportions, percentage, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, and geometry
Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form, and deal with several abstract concrete variables. Ability to analyze and use data to supervise the delivery of instruction and the school improvement process.
Technology Skills: Proficient use of technology which includes: basic operations and concepts, word processing, spread sheets, internet usage, critical evaluation of information, data analysis, email, integration of technology.
Other Skills And Abilities: Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in education. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Ability to copy, coordinate, instruct, evaluate and negotiate. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies. Ability to discipline students consistent with district procedures. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
