Staff Accountant

MWH Constructors, a global leader in heavy civil construction of water and wastewater facilities, is currently seeking a Staff Accountant I to join our Finance team, and help prepare/process accounts receivable invoices, perform project accounting activities, and maintain fixed asset records. The position is full-time within the offices of our subsidiary Slayden Constructors in Salem Oregon.

Essential Functions

• Weekly review of accounts payable; including payment releases, contract and compliance reviews.
• Assist with job set-ups, cost transfers, and project close out activities.
• Assist in the preparation and submittal of client invoices as needed. Verify accuracy of all data inputs and outputs and ensure timely submittal of outputs as required.
• Consistent communication with Project Management and Operations staff and ability to meet timelines associated with project needs.
• Monthly general ledger reviews and participation in the monthly close process.
• Fixed asset management and coordination with the equipment team.
• State and federal tax and property filings as needed.
• Maintain detailed accounting files to support internal and external audits.
• Perform additional assignments as required by internal clients and management.
• Play a key customer service role and must be personable, professional and knowledgeable in areas of assignment.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or other related field; equivalent combination of experience, skills and training may be substituted
• 3 years of project accounting experience
• Strong client service, good written and verbal communication skills essential
• Strong Excel Skills
• Strong organizational skills, ability to multi-task and attention to detail required

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior accounting experience in the construction/engineering industry
• CMiC software experience
• Experience with purchase orders, work orders and subcontracts in the construction industry
• Familiarity with Sales and Use tax and its application to client invoicing
