All Peoples Community Center (All Peoples) is an 82 year old community resource center located in Los Angeles; it is a 501(c)(3) non-profit. Since 1942, the center has been a safe haven for its community, providing an array of services that empower individuals and promote community respect and self-determination for all. In 2016, All Peoples became a FamilySource Center, a program led and funded by The City of Los Angeles. It aims to eliminate poverty for families living in the city of Los Angeles by 2035. All Peoples has a staff of 42. The budget is 3.5+ million dollars and includes various private, public, community, and government funds, investments and contracts.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Staff Accountant plays a pivotal role in maintaining accurate financial records and supporting fiscal operations within the organization. Responsibilities include financial record maintenance, preparation of financial reports, grants management, payroll processing, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. The ideal candidate should possess a strong background in accounting, with expertise in non-profit accounting practices. Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Staff Accountant contributes to the organization's financial stability and growth by providing essential support in various finance-related tasks.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Record Maintenance:
- Maintain accurate financial records by entering data into the accounting software system.
- Reconcile bank statements and financial accounts to ensure accuracy.
- Maintain C/R, Cash Disbursements (C/D), Accounts Payable (A/P), Accounts Receivable (A/R), and General Ledger (G/L).
- Prepare and maintain Depreciation Schedules and Cost Allocation Plans.
- Maintain the General Ledger on a weekly basis.
- Update department processes from paper to electronic.
Financial Reporting:
- Prepare cash reports, Accounts Payable (A/P), and Accounts Receivable (A/R) schedules for review by the Director of Finance.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports and invoices to funding sources.
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements for audits.
Grants Management:
- Assist in processing grants and contracts, including maintaining records and invoices for funding sources.
- Prepare and submit invoices and reports to funding sources on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis for grants, board meetings, and development needs.
- Process Subcontractors’ budgets, cash requests, reports, and fiscal monitoring.
Payroll Processing:
- Assist in the preparation of semi-monthly payroll processing, including accurate calculation of wages, taxes, and deductions.
- Prepare and distribute employee paychecks or direct deposits.
Compliance and Regulations:
- Ensure compliance with all financial regulations, including taxes.
- Assist in preparing for and participating in annual and grant audits.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Respond to internal and external correspondence and inquiries in a timely manner.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Finance.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field. 2+ years of relevant experience including strong budgetary, accounting and financial responsibilities.
- Demonstrated understanding of accounting principles and their practical applications.
- Required experience with spreadsheets/Excel, Quickbooks, Google Workspace software.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines with flexibility.
- Strong organizational skills and work ethic.
- Knowledge of non-profit organizations
- Possession of a valid California driver’s license, current automobile insurance policy, and insurable driving record.
