We are looking for a Staff Accountant who is highly interested in investment accounting to ensure investment value is properly reflected in the Financial Statements. This individual will help maintain general ledger records, including supporting documentation for journal entries, record daily bank activity in general ledger (checkbook) and reconcile all bank accounts on a daily basis.
This position is full-time, located in Arlington, Virginia, and will report to the Finance & Accounting Director.
Business Core Hours: 8:30 am to 5:00 pm (Hours are flexible)
Primary Responsibilities:

• Reconcile and record all investment-related in the general ledger
• Research, record, and reconcile daily bank transactions into the general ledger
• Collaborate with the investment team and navigate the investment management system to determine the character of investments and ensure appropriate accounting treatment is applied
• Process accounts payable in compliance with the Association's policies and procedures. See the process through from initial receipt of invoice, through appropriate approval channels, to ultimate payment
• Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure, including industry-specific concepts
• Ensure accurate and timely completion of all assigned monthly, quarterly, and year-end close responsibilities
• Maintain schedules to reconcile accounts, support adjusting journal entries, and validate accrual calculations
• Maintain fixed asset and depreciation schedules
• Research and reconcile suspense accounts
• Assist other departments with member requests, including but not limited to re-issuing and/or voiding checks
• Work to improve current processes in order to increase efficiency
• Support the budget preparation process through analysis of proposed departmental budgets and ensuring mathematical accuracy
• Other projects requested from department superiors and Association executives

Qualifications/Characteristics:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline is required
• 1-2 years of accounting and/or related experience preferred
• Must have a solid knowledge of MS Office applications, including Excel and Word
• Strong understanding of general ledger and chart of accounts is necessary
• Experience with Microsoft Dynamics preferred, but not required
• Demonstrated ability to think critically and solve problems
• High level of professionalism
• Ability to work independently and multi-task while also able to be a team player
• Strong organizational skills
