Position Summary
The Staff Accountant is responsible for maintaining the day to day cash management reports, preparation of journal entries and monthly reconciliation of various bank and other balance sheet accounts. This position works under the supervision of the Controller and will be asked to provide various areas of assistance to the Controller in maintaining the accuracy of our general ledger balances and monitoring cash transactions.
Essential Duties
- Responsible for maintaining the daily operations of cash receipts and daily analysis of cash flow for cash projection.
- Reconciliation of cash accounts on a timely basis, including working with respective departments to correct any outstanding balances or discrepancies.
- Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations as assigned, as part of the month end closing process.
- Participate in monthly and fiscal year end ledger closings; review journal entry data for balancing and completeness, track accounting accruals and accounts receivable documentation and processing.
- Consult and assist department managers in resolution of account inquiries and assist with adjustments as needed.
- Create monthly invoices and track receipts for University business partners - including tenants and dining services.
- Obtain monthly charges from various business partners and ensure processing of charges to appropriate budgets in a timely manner (examples include catering, office supplies, mail / duplicating).
- Research general ledger account discrepancies, process appropriate transactions and follow up to ensure proper resolution.
- Manage compliance with state escheat policies on behalf of University, working with Financial Aid and Accounts Payable as needed.
- As requested by the Controller, obtain and/or analyze data needed for the yearly audit, Form 990 filing and other projects as needed.
- Identify opportunities to generate efficiencies and increase the effectiveness of the Accounting Operations.
- All other duties as assigned by the Controller or Executive Director, Compliance & Strategy.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or significant experience in similar role.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to prioritize work well and focus on the completion of tasks.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with a diverse population of students, faculty and staff.
- Must be able to operate all standard office equipment and software including MS office.
- Knowledge of and commitment to the mission of La Salle University.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
- Experience with monthly close process and bank reconciliations.
- Ability to use a computer for extended periods of time.
- Position may require additional hours as necessary at peak periods.
