Job Description
The Staff Accountant will prepare and maintain financial records to track the organization’s assets, liabilities, profit and loss, and other related financial activities
Essential Duties & Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Financial Record Maintenance:
Prepare, examine, and analyze financial statements to ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting principles.
Record day-to-day financial transactions and complete the posting process.
Maintain and update general ledger accounts.
Asset and Liability Tracking:
Monitor and reconcile accounts, ensuring the accuracy of financial data.
Track and document organization assets and liabilities.
Perform periodic reconciliation of bank statements.
Budget Support:
Assist in the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts.
Collaborate with team members to provide financial insights for budgetary decisions.
Audit and Compliance:
Support internal and external audit processes by providing necessary documentation and explanations.
Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and accounting standards.
Financial Analysis:
Conduct financial analysis to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement.
Prepare detailed reports on financial performance.
Process Improvement:
Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy in financial reporting.
Collaboration:
Work closely with cross-functional teams to gather financial information and provide support as needed.
Communicate effectively with colleagues to address inquiries and resolve discrepancies.
Performs general accounting and other related duties for the organization
Assists as needed with maintaining the General Ledger
Actively participates in the monthly close including coding invoices, reconciling some GL account activity, and recording basic journal entries
Reconciles bank accounts at a minimum monthly, verifies deposits, and addresses some bank-related inquiries
Ensures vendor payments are charged to the appropriate accounts
Provides some assistance to senior Finance members with requests from external accounting firms with respect to gathering necessary account information and documents requested for the preparation of corporate tax filings and annual financial review
Assists with resolving basic federal and state tax inquiries as needed
Assists with the implementation or upgrading of any Finance or ERP systems.
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field or commensurate experience
CPA certification or in the process of obtaining CPA is a plus.
Proven experience as a Staff Accountant or in a similar role.
Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.
Proficient in the use of accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
