Job description

At Wizards of the Coast, we connect people around the world through play and imagination. From our genre-defining games like Magic: The Gathering® and Dungeons & Dragons® to our growing multiverse, we continue to innovate and build new ways to foster friendship and connection. That's where you come in!
Are you a creative leader with a high bar for quality and accuracy? Do you have a deep understanding of typesetting and print production at scale? If so, this may be the role for you! We produce print files for cards and packaging in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, and we are looking for a Senior Technical Artist. The successful candidate will drive initiatives to improve our tools in order to meet the demands of a growing workload. They will not only be a subject matter authority on our production processes, but also continuously work to reduce handle time while maintaining our quality standards. We need a hardworking problem-solver who follows industry standards and can make well-researched recommendations on tools and workflows.
What You'll Do

  • Be a SME in the production of cards, packaging, and other assets.
  • Provide expertise, development, and support for a high-efficiency, heavily scripted XML workflow (Apple Script, JavaScript).
  • Coordinate final approval on assets and make file updates as needed.
  • Exhibit strong self-management of daily tasks.
  • Continually help the team build, test, and improve our workflow and color management procedures.
  • Lead large projects to improve quality, efficiency, and documentation.
  • Build, test, and implement new tools.
  • Work with partners across multiple teams to improve processes and handle risk.
  • Create learning resources for the production team.
  • Keep up to date with industry practices and tools, and communicate key findings to the team.
  • Understand project requirements and risks, and message them effectively to leadership.
  • Measure capacity and handle times, and make recommendations on staffing and team structure.

What You Bring
  • Experience leading a team in a fast-paced production art role.
  • Proficient communicator in both Japanese (N2 proficiency or higher) and English.
  • Solid background in typesetting in Japanese, including Ruby text.
  • InDesign and Photoshop expertise required.
  • Ability to script in an Apple Script and/or JavaScript environment.
  • Knowledge of die-lines and packaging file build needs.
  • Strong skills in Illustrator and Acrobat required.
  • Familiarity with print production standards.
  • Solid understanding of XML workflows, GREP, and scripting for InDesign required.
