JOB TITLE: Senior Tax Analyst
REPORTS TO: Senior Manager – Tax
DEPARTMENT: Alpha Metallurgical Services – SGA Accounting
Job Summary:
Perform tax compliance and accounting functions using Federal, State and Local tax laws and regulations and the Company’s policies and procedures.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Assists with computation, preparation, and filing of assigned Federal, State and Local tax returns for income and franchise tax utilizing tax preparation software and/or Excel templates
- Assists with computing the quarterly and year-end income tax provision
- Assists with computing expected tax expenses and preparation of monthly accounting entries for tax accruals
- Records accrual entries on the general ledger and makes the related payments for assigned taxes
- Communicates with taxing authorities to resolve notices and assessments
- Assists Tax Managers with top-level reasonableness checks
- Prepares balance sheet and tax expense account reconciliations for tax General Ledger accounts
- Assists with tax audits, particularly for income and franchise taxes
- Assists with special projects related to taxes, particularly for income and franchise taxes
- Assists in maintaining Tax Fixed Asset books (Federal, State, E&P)
- Conduct all work activities in compliance with Federal and State laws and Company policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
Position Prerequisites/Preferences/Certifications/Qualifications:
- Four-year college degree in accounting from an accredited college or university
- Proficient or have a strong working knowledge of Excel, an ERP system, and tax preparation software
- Must perform timely, efficiently, and effectively under monthly, quarterly, and annual internal and external deadlines
