Position
Senior Scientist Analytical Chemistry
Mission
This individual will assist the Analytical team with experiments and analysis to support the organization's future R&D, production, and revenue goals. This role will be involved with method development for projects from our R&D teams (enzymology, heterogeneous catalysis, strain development, formulations, process development) on various analytical equipment (HPLC, ICP, GCMS, etc.). He/she will ensure that all sample analyses adhere to strict standard operating and calibration procedures used in the laboratory. This is a hands-on role where the individual's initiative, laboratory prowess, and energy will make a substantial impact on the company.
Outcomes
Analytical Support:
- Manage multiple projects from various R&D groups with minimal oversight
- Develop methods for incoming analytes from various R&D teams on HPLC, ICP, GCMS, etc.
- Assist with running samples from the various R&D groups on the HPLC, ICP, GCMS, etc. with fast turn-around times
- Train entry level Scientists on various instruments, HPLC, GCMS, ICP, etc.
- Manage relationships with third-party labs and vendors
- Perform a wide variety of technical procedures independently
- Ensure proper disposal of laboratory waste
- Maintain electronic & paper records and follow protocol for storage
Competencies
- BS/MS/PhD in Chemistry with relevant industry experience in Analytical Chemistry- 2+ years experience with mass spectrometry
- Advanced knowledge of analytical laboratory techniques
- Method development and validation knowledge on LCMS/GC
- In depth knowledge of troubleshooting HPLC/GCMS
- Experience with instruments: HPLC, ICP, GCMS
- Good communication, negotiation, leadership, and project management skills
- Comfortable following safety protocols and wearing personal protective equipmentincluding
laboratory coats, eye protection, and close toed shoes--in work zones. - Good familiarity with Office products as well as a general level of comfort with online
communication and work management platforms such as Dropbox, Google Doc, and Slack. - Ability to communicate well individually and in a team atmosphere
- Good verbal and writing skills
- Analytical experience in the fields of enzymology, proteomics, fermentation, and/or metal
catalysis is a plus
Desired Characteristics
- Experience with instruments such as:
- ICP, HPLC, GCMS, FTIR
- In depth knowledge of troubleshooting HPLC/GCMS
- Good knowledge of Analytical Chemistry software e.g. Empower, Target Lynx, and OpenLab
- Experience with method development on HPLC/ GCMS
- High level of position ownership and engagement
- Analytical experience in the fields of enzymology, fermentation, and/or metal catalysis is a plus
