The Senior Risk Analyst will build and maintain models that support Rhythm's gross margin reporting and forecasting, as well as monitoring of market risks. This role will require strong analytical skills to explain drivers of changes in gross margin / P&L over time. This role is critical in helping Rhythm profitably grow its energy and renewables footprint while ensuring risks are managed and reported in line with company's risk policy.
Job Responsibilities
- Build and maintain models to support timely P&L attribution and position monitoring
- Perform analysis to understand changes in P&L, positions, and price curves to help explain performance or risk drivers to leadership team
- Identify process and system gaps that limit the ability to accurately explain drivers of P&L and coordinate with other departments to develop solutions
- Monitor forward positions in collaboration with the Portfolio Management team to ensure compliance with Rhythm's risk policy
- Perform middle office end-of-day processes which include validation of curves and upload accuracy to ensure overnight valuations are accurate
- Support mid-office related activities related to ETRM projects including requirements scoping, testing, and migration to production for position/exposure reporting, P&L reporting, and settlements
- Own and review the transaction control process including key controls such as supply trade confirmations to ensure all deals are accurately captured within Rhythm's ETRM and confirmed timely
- Provide support to Finance team for any necessary risk reporting for Rhythm's credit facility provider and suppliers
- Work with Portfolio Management, Operations, and other key stakeholders to ensure risks are identified and managed appropriately
- Maintain strong knowledge of wholesale power and gas market fundamentals
- Perform ad-hoc analysis as needed in support of business initiatives
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in US deregulated power industry (preferably in ERCOT)
- Prior experience in risk management, energy trading, structuring, load forecasting, or retail pricing
- Experience in Gross Margin reporting and projections for forward and cash books as well as settlements
- Experienced with ETRM systems including valuation methodology, business logic, and translation of views between front-office, mid-office, and back-office
- Strong knowledge of wholesale and retail energy markets, fundamentals, regulations, and market design
- Knowledge of financial planning, settlements, and accounting practices with the ability to follow through and understand impact of hedging decisions and communicate and measure market risks
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Strong analytical skills with ability to process information from a variety of resources and draw meaningful conclusions
- Strong modeling skills and proficient in excel, VBA and SQL. Experience with AWS, Snowflake, and Databricks are helpful
- Sense of urgency and proven capability to work within short deadlines
- Self-starter and detail-oriented problem solver
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Engineering, Statistics, or Mathematics
Geography
- Rhythm is headquartered in Houston, Texas. Preference will be given to applicants local to Houston
- Candidates remote to Houston will be considered. Remote candidates will be expected to travel to Houston on a regular basis
