To help keep up with this growth we are looking for an outstanding Sr. Research Assistant that has experience in the beauty industry or similar industry.


The R&D Senior Research Assistant performs a wide variety of technical tasks in support of specific Melaleuca new or existing products.  The Senior Research Assistant is expected to use his/her understanding of science and training to consistently deliver contributions that result in new and/or improved products, packages, processes or methodologies.  Employees at this level have the ability to contribute to the planning and execution of a broad range of technical tasks and propose and test their own observations and theories.        


Essential
  • Perform a wide variety of complex, non-routine tasks.
  • Conduct or direct experiments requiring the selection of equipment and raw materials.
  • Independently evaluate and summarize data from experiments.
  • Interpret unexpected results or observations and recommend next steps.
  • Communicate results both orally and in writing to supervisor, key project members, and higher-level management.
  • Independently take action on project activities, work with other functions and sometimes outside vendors.
  • Capable of quickly learning and applying internal computer software systems (JDE, Master Control, Mini Tab)
  • Be able to independently set up and analyze Design of Experiments (DOE).
  • Review artwork and formulation instructions to identify any potential issues.
  • Help teach less experienced Researchers.
  • Maintain accurate records of trial compositions and observations.
  • Evaluate competitive products, Melaleuca products and trial compositions according to established procedures.
  • Calibrate and maintain lab equipment.
Additional
  • Prepare prototypes for sensory and in home use tests of Melaleuca products and competitive products.
  • Use internal computer systems to record and analyze data, prepare graphs, reports and memos and communicate with coworkers in R&D and in other Melaleuca Departments.
  • Prepare data summaries using appropriate mathematical and statistical tools available in Microsoft Excel, Mini-Tab and other computer applications.
  • Evaluate and recommend finishing and rework procedures for non-standard lots of Melaleuca products.
  • Create Bill of Materials (BOM), specification sheets, and other electronic forms to support Purchasing, QA and Operations.
  • Represent R&D function in support of QA, Operations, Purchasing and Marketing activities.
  • Work directly with Melaleuca suppliers to develop new technologies for Melaleuca products.
  • Perform and summarize experimental designs incorporating multiple samples.

Essential

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a scientific discipline
  • 1-2 years in the beauty industry or similar
  • Proficiency using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Proficiency in basic statistical analyses.
  • Understanding of Experimental Design
  • Good communication skills.

Additional

  • Chemistry, biology or biochemistry degree preferred.
  • Experience using common lab instruments (e.g., pH meter, viscometer).
