Job description

We are hiring a Sr. Industrial-Product Designerto join our Marketing team!
DISCOVER
Are you a skilled Designer interested in seeing your ideas become reality at an outstanding company? In this role you will develop new products through sketches and surface CAD models, from concept to new product introduction, maintaining a consumer product-focus throughout. With responsibility for the entire design cycle, you'll take models from prototype all the way through CNC pattern construction and consultation with toolmakers for mold build. The designs you develop will help keep us innovative in design of our industry-leading Hot Spring® Spas, Caldera® Spas, Endless Pools®, Freeflow Spas®, Fantasy Spas®, Sauna360® products and other water therapy related products.
YOUR RIPPLE EFFECT

  • Are you system-savvy? You will generate 2D ideation sketches and renderings manually and with Photoshop. Prior knowledge of Alias 3D software is required, to generate CAS/CAD models of new product ideas. You will also make 3D renderings with Keyshot or an equivalent.
  • Do you work well multi-functionally? We are a highly collaborative team. You will work with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Service, and Manufacturing for technical advice on various projects, and will work with Marketing for aesthetic approval. You will frequently work with Engineering to create assembly models of concepts and product assemblies. The product drawings and designs you develop will need to complement guidance from the Engineering, Marketing, Production and Sales departments, among others.
  • Do you think critically? As you implement projects, you will need to analyze all angles of the task at hand, taking technology trends, market analysis and benchmarking, human ergonomics, and resource requirements into account. When developing product changes, you will assess impact to existing product lines and associated CAS/CAD models.
  • Are you a strong communicator? We're looking for someone who presents well and is unafraid to speak up when collaborating with others and when proposing new designs. You'll be expected to participate in product development of new ideas and industrial design presentations.
  • Can you drive innovation? We'll look to you to push for new approaches and solutions, develop innovative concepts, and investigate the benefits of new/alternative thought processes. You'll need to know the latest on new technologies and develop recommendations accordingly. To support your efforts, you will conduct research on trends and perform benchmarking and market analysis to inform the trend- and story boards you'll create.
  • Can you manage competing priorities? You'll be expected to manage multiple, concurrent projects from concept to factory introduction, with attention to cost/budget limitations, timeliness, and safety. You'll work within timelines and maintain timeline updates as needed.
  • Are you a skilled problem-solver? We'll look to you to fix and problem-solve, relying on prior experience and considering new techniques, technologies, or innovative concepts.
  • Are you familiar with manufacturing processes? You will design plastic components for injection, extrusion, rotational, and vacuum molding and will evaluate the potential of new and existing plastic materials.
  • Can you maintain system and procedural compliance? You will manage Engineering CAS/CAD file databases for drawing, model, and document maintenance, and edit and update existing 3-D model files to keep CAS/CAD files current. You'll conduct all assignments under ISO and Stage Gate-required processes and procedures. Further, you will manage implementation activities to ensure products and systems conform to engineering design and project specifications.
  • Can you see around the corner? In this role you will calculate the dimensions of new products or product enhancements and estimate potential material usage needs.
