Job description

Cliffhanger Games is a newly formed Seattle Studio focusing on blockbuster action-adventure games and pioneering next-generation emergent storytelling beginning with Marvel's Black Panther. Join us to pursue your passion to build unique groundbreaking, and inclusive games that empower players to create incredible stories of heroic adventure. Become a foundational part of an ambitious, respectful and diverse team as we are looking for a Senior Environment Director to join our team.

Reporting to the Senior Environment Director you will help create visual and gameplay experiences for the immersive and rich worlds our players inhabit. The Senior Environment Designer/Artist will partner with all relevant disciplines in the creation of immersive and intuitive environment layouts from prototype to final assets. You love to study how the player will move through the worlds you create, are fascinated with spatial psychology and how that influences player traversal and interaction, and delight in applying your gameplay, artistic and technical abilities to make beautiful gameplay worlds that engage our players to explore.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Senior Environment Director and Creative and Technical leadership in the creation of environment layouts and world content that effectively supports gameplay, environmental world building, aesthetic aspirations, and storytelling of studio projects.
  • Work with key stakeholders to ensure environment layouts support a player's first experience through effectively developing and meeting gameplay mission flow and combat requirements.
  • Work with Senior Environment Director and Creative leadership to ensure product environment style and gameplay experience is consistent with larger product goals.
  • Research, develop and recommend construction and pipeline best practices/improvements in the creation of high-quality environment layout and world content.
  • Work with Technical Art and Engineering teams to ensure that environment assets are optimized and performant while maintaining gameplay and visual quality.
  • Partner with Senior Environment Director and Development Directors in scope management, resource allocation, and schedule planning.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 6 years' experience as an environment designer/artist in the video game industry.
  • A portfolio/reel and resume that demonstrates your layout aesthetic, gameplay and technical environment skills.

We encourage you to apply, even if you don't match every qualification listed above. Let us know why this role appeals to you, why you will be great, what unique perspectives you will bring, and which requirements will challenge you to grow.
