Sr. Engineering Manager

Coalesce is hiring a Sr. Software Engineering Manager to help us build the future of data transformation platforms. In this role you'll work with our world-class software engineering team alongside our quality and product teams to prioritize and align our software engineering efforts.

The right candidate for this role has a deep technical background previously as an individual contributor and also has demonstrated the ability to lead teams of ~10 engineers working on a complex technical software product.

A typical day might include brainstorming with engineers and product managers on different approaches to a new feature, identifying potential improvements to both code and processes and meeting with engineers to ensure projects are on track.

This is also a role that involves strategic long-term thinking - this includes long-term technical roadmaps, identifying upcoming technical architectural refactors, running recruiting efforts, career development of the team and overall quality of the Coalesce product.

As this is ultimately a people management role, the right individual should have a demonstrated history of leading teams with a high standard of excellence and encouraging a collaborative and fun environment where people enjoy the work they do everyday and the people they work with.

Software Engineering @ Coalesce

Our stack is Typescript / React / Redux / Node.js. Our codebase has been intentionally designed to enable developers to build features and improvements efficiently. Individual engineers typically "own" features, going through the entire development cycle from concept to design to implementation and testing all without requiring the typical back and forth between multiple separate teams.

The engineering team maintains the Coalesce Front-end application, our back-end, the Coalesce CLI tool (coa), our shared modules and the testing codebase. Given the nature of our application, an interest or understanding of Computer Science fundamentals, writing robust code and the ability to find simplicity in complex problems is key.

Qualifications

• Previous experience working as a highly productive Individual Contributor on a complex software product

• Experience managing direct reports in both technical and nontechnical capacities

• Experience working with product and program managers towards shipping complex features

• Demonstrated experience identifying and proposing technical changes in architecture, approach, tooling or processes that have improved overall product quality

• Experience working with stakeholders in balancing & addressing technical debt and feature development

• Demonstrated experience driving resolution of escalations

• Ability to work fully remote

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working at a startup

• Experience working with a live service, high uptime web product with React / Redux / Node.JS / Typescript

Compensation Range: $180K - $230K
