Overview:
This role is a writer-editor hybrid. This role requires the ability to think high-level and long-term while also being able to key in on the details.
For the writer part, we’re looking for someone who thinks like a marketer and acts like a journalist to tell interesting and engaging stories and bring GitHub’s content to life in creative ways for software developers and leaders around the world. It’s more than just sharing a message, but actively connecting our audiences with everything that’s happening in technology, software development, and helping them see how GitHub can solve some of their largest business challenges.
The editor will be someone the content team can turn to for developmental edits. Someone who can guide writers, perform structural and technical edits, and create consistency in our work.
This person will join the Content Marketing team, working cross functionally with teams like Brand, Integrated Demand, Digital, Product Marketing, Communications, Executive Communications, Design, and Developer Relations.
The team’s work is highly visible, so candidates should be comfortable working with executives and senior leadership. Excellent communication and collaboration skills, high levels of compassion for colleagues and the developer community, and a discerning eye for edits are important for success in the role.
Responsibilities:
Craft content that is innovative, engaging, and well researched
Substantive and developmental edits of the Content team’s writing
Maintain GitHub’s style guide
Write and edit content for GitHub web properties including headlines, body copy, and long-form web content
Apply data-driven learnings to iterate and improve
Explain highly technical, complex concepts and features succinctly and in a way that deeply resonates with GitHub’s audiences
Brainstorm, workshop, and ideate pitches and articles
Work data and research into articles and content
Bonus: knowledge of SEO best practices and implementing them in content
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications
Minimum of 8 years experience in editorial, journalism, content strategy, or other relevant writing roles for technical audiences
Experience with both short- and long-form writing including but not limited to creating website copy, emails, blog, e-books, whitepapers, and case studies for external audiences, preferably for technical audiences
Experience supporting cross-functional, senior, or executive stakeholders, with skills in managing cross-functional projects
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working within or supporting clients in the software development industry
- Demonstrable ability to see top down and bottom up, with skills in working seamlessly between high-level, strategic thinking and more nuanced, tactical lenses
Prior experience working with or supporting video, design, and social media projects
Prior experience managing individuals or teams
Ability to demonstrate a portfolio of content and campaign work that shows versatility and creativity
Demonstrated ability to work calmly and maintain good judgment in high-stress environments
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong editing abilities and attention to detail
Compensation Range: The base salary range for this job is USD $71,300.00 - USD $189,300.00 /Yr.
In addition, certain roles also have the opportunity to earn sales incentives based on revenue or utilization, depending on the terms of the plan and the employee's role.
These pay ranges are intended to cover roles based across the United States. An individual's base pay depends on various factors including geographical location and review of experience, knowledge, skills, abilities of the applicant. At GitHub certain roles are eligible for benefits and additional rewards, including annual bonus and stock. These rewards are allocated based on individual impact in role. In addition, certain roles also have the opportunity to earn sales incentives based on revenue or utilization, depending on the terms of the plan and the employee's role.
