SUMMARY:

The Sr Director of Government Relations will lead the development and implementation of Andersen's government affairs strategy, aimed at advancing business priorities and protecting business interests at the local, state and federal levels. The Sr Director of Government Relations will be responsible for developing and maintaining the company's public policy platform, building relationships with public officials, representing Andersen in public forums, and partnering with internal experts to advance our policy agenda.

This work is performed in a dynamic political environment that involves significant reputation and brand considerations. A successful Government Relations leader will consider enterprise-wide impacts related to priorities and advocacy plans, be intellectually curious, and be committed to working in a bipartisan fashion, consistent with Andersen's values and business objectives. Together with a cross-functional team of leaders from across the company, this leader will drive meaningful change and deliver significant value to our business and our industry.

This position reports to the Chief Legal Office with dotted line reporting to the VP of Communications and Community.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develop, execute and maintain a government affairs strategy to advance business priorities and protect business interests at the local, state and federal levels.

• Build and foster relationships with public officials at the local, state and federal levels.

• Monitor active and emerging legislation of business relevance; subscribe to and manage bill tracking service.

• Manage contract lobbyist(s).

• Represent Andersen in relevant trade associations and actively participate in association policy initiatives of relevance to our company/industry.

• Partner with senior leadership and key partners in legal, regulatory, RD&I, communications, operations and human resources to identity priority business issues and develop company positions.

• Develop subject matter expertise on a wide range of policy issues, such as energy efficiency, building codes, materials/ingredient management, labor relations, corporate tax, etc. and provide insightful analysis on those issues with internal business partners.

• Provide company leaders with opportunities to develop relationships with elected officials by coordinating visits, tours and attendance at events.

• Advise on potential reputational implications of policy positions and mitigate risk.


QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

• Deep relationships with policymakers, trade associations and the lobbying community.

• Expertise in the legislative process and ability to analyze and react to political trends at all levels of government.

• Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to facilitate meetings, resolve conflict, build consensus, establish rapport and collaborate effectively at the highest level of government and business.

• Sound judgment with the ability to assess risks to Andersen’s reputation, work autonomously and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

• Ability to build lasting relationships with external partners and to work collaboratively across diverse groups in a way that positively supports Andersen’s brand.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a distinct ability to distill complex ideas into simple, understandable messaging.

• Ability to apply discretion and sensitivity while working with confidential information.

• BA/BS degree or equivalent experience

• 10+ years of experience in policy, government affairs, lobbying or advocacy work

• Must be based in Minneapolis/St. Paul or Washington DC area

In 2024, Andersen has set a profit-sharing target of $4,000 per eligible employee, prorated as appropriate. Profit sharing will be paid out in quarterly installments to provide eligible employees with payments throughout the year, with payment amounts tied to quarterly operating profit performance.
