Overall Responsibility: We are looking for a versatile and innovative Sr. Aviation Technical Expert, an Aviation Technology SME with a strong aptitude for Technical Writing to join our team. This position could be based with our Dallas, TX office or Remotely based. In this role, you will be responsible for creating technical narratives, program definition documents, and technical standards, guidelines and criteria for the aviation industry as well as designing, developing, and documenting special systems drawings and specifications. Additional contributions include effective coordination with project stakeholders, teaming partners, scheduling, construction administration and construction management. Responsibilities include technical oversight and ethical quality control of various projects, project management, ensuring deadlines/budgets with regards to assigned projects are met in a timely manner, and the quality of work produced maintains a high level of standard. This position requires sharing knowledge and best practices of special airport systems requirements and functionalities. Experience designing and documenting technical architecture and/or implementing solutions in the aviation industry is a must. Essential Functions:
- Creates comprehensive technical documentation including program definition and governance documents, and technical standards, guidelines and criteria to communicate complex concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Is able to demonstrate technical strengths in a variety of knowledge areas including the design and implementation of security systems, structured cabling systems, audio visual systems, network and digital communications systems and radio-based communications systems.
- Is a Subject Matter Expert in Airport Information Operational Systems which include but are not limited to and in no particular order:
- Airport Collaborative Decision making (A-CDM),
- Airport Operational Systems (AOS),
- Airport Management Systems (AMS),
- Airport Operational Database (AODB),
- Airport Information Display Systems (e.g. FIDS),
- Resource Management Systems (RMS),
- Common Use Terminal Equipment (CUTE),
- Common Use Passenger Processing Systems (CUPPS),
- Common Use Self Service (CUSS), Bag Drop,
- Baggage Reconciliation System (BRS),
- Aeronautical Billing, Business Intelligence (BI),
- Enterprise Service Bus (ESB),
- Advanced docking guidance systems (AVDGS),
- Revenue Forecasting, Passenger Forecasting,
- Electronic Flight Progress Strip (EFPS),
- Flight schedules (SSIM, ACL, AIDX, FIXM),
- Asset Management System (e.g. Maximo)
- Translate technical specifications and requirements into detailed system designs, ensuring functionality, reliability, and compliance with industry standards.
- Work closely with subject matter experts, engineers, and developers to understand complex technical details and distill them into clear, concise documentation.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation that evolves with the project lifecycle, incorporating updates and changes as needed.
- Collaborate with client stakeholders to gather input, validate documentation, and address any inquiries.
- Functions as Project Representative on assignments with special systems scope and other disciplines and ensures cross coordinated design on projects.
- Lead design development of special systems work, create and review drawings and technical specifications.
- Provides advisory information during the construction phase, performs site surveys, and contributes to engineering studies.
- Monitors project production and schedules to ensure projects are completed on schedule and within budget.
- Performs QA/QC Functions as necessary.
Education/Experience Minimum:
- Registered Communication Distribution Designer (RCDD) Certification required.
- Other Industry recognized certifications are preferred.
- Professional Engineer (PE) License in Electrical or Electronics Engineering preferred.
- Minimum of ten years’ experience in a technical capacity reflecting increasing responsibility, specifically in the aviation industry.
Needed Skills:
- Proficient in project management concepts and with software: Excel, Bluebeam, Newforma, MS Office Suite.
- Advanced knowledge of ITIL, BICSI, NEC, NFPA, and IBC code regulations.
- Advanced knowledge of IATA, AIDX and other Aviation standards
- Strategic understanding of IT architectural solutions in Aviation Digital Data Systems, Operational Readiness and Testing (ORAT) procedures and Airport/Aviation Operations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to create and maintain productive relationships with employees, clients, and vendors.
- Ability to travel to project sites for design and coordination meetings.
