Job description

The primary focus of the position is to work on all aspects of architecture design for the CCL fleet, with regard to area refurbishments, new building projects, and physical/functional improvements. The development of numerous large-scale, marine design projects simultaneously, under the direction of the Interior Design Manager/Architect Manager or AVP of Design. Proposal of design solutions according to business sponsor's desired objectives, goals, and budget.

Essential Functions:

  • Present proposed project plans to assigned manager for approval. Produce renderings or 3D sketches, drawings, floor plans, elevations, details sections, ceiling plans, and area specifications for various design projects.
  • Apply sound knowledge of architecture principles and practices in a broad array of assignments and projects. Consult with Design Manager/Architect Manager or AVP of Design for technical guidance on unusual or complex issues.
  • Act independently regarding architectural methods and complexities, utilizing advanced design techniques to overcome project challenges
  • Propose FF&E solutions to Design Manager/Architect Manager or AVP of Design, and executive audiences, if needed; strong product and vendor knowledge required.
  • Make recommendations to improve the maintainability of the interior design elements on the ships. Conduct product research and propose design standards to increase life-cycle cost effectiveness. Create project specifications and drawing packages utilizing CCL defined formatting guidelines.
  • Work alongside other architects/interior designers to foster creativity, assist with project workload, and enhance design quality.
  • Review recently completed projects. Compare finished results to design specifications and renderings. Work with the AVP of design to create a work list for items needing rework. Work with Project Managers and design team with developing presentations, visuals, and supplemental materials for contractors
  • Convene, when necessary, with outside consultants, such as: marine architects, interior design firms, and outfitting contractors to outline and communicate the company's interior design needs and requirements with regard to aesthetics, functionality, and durability.
  • Review, check and comment workshop drawings from shipyards and contractors.
  • Prepare and deliver impactful design presentations to the Executive Team, when required. Maintain a composed and professional demeanor to build relationships with internal customers. list for items needing rework. Work with Project Managers and design team with developing presentations, visuals, and supplemental materials for contractors and business sponsors.
  • Assist the team with organizing a standard archive of information for the ships' interior design items; ensure all drawings and specifications are updated accordingly.

Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Architecture, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of commercial design experience. Marine experience preferred. 
  • Impressive portfolio of previous projects and clientele
  • Experience designing large, public spaces, preferably for marine environments.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Exceptional AutoCAD 2D and 3D skills
  • Good 3D hand sketching skills needed.
  • Proficiency in industry-standard CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, Rhino) and 3D modeling tools.
  • Strong understanding of architectural principles, building codes, and regulations applicable to maritime construction.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Detail-oriented approach with a focus on accuracy and precision in drafting and documentation.
  • Creative problem-solving skills and the ability to innovate and adapt to evolving project requirements.

Physical Demands: Must be able to remain in a stationary position at a desk and/or computer for extended periods of time. Requires regular movement throughout CCL facilities. May need to stand for long periods of time.

Travel: 25-50% international and domestic travel

Work Conditions: Work primarily in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential. Work may require employee to work inside and outside with exposure to changing climate and/or operate machinery. May be requested to work a different shift. Other job specific working conditions. Travel will be required for ship visits, surveys, dry docks, and new building projects. Domestic and International travel is required.

The range for this role's base salary is $83,182 - $100,000.  Offers to selected candidates will be made on a fair and equitable basis, taking into account specific job-related skills and experience.
