Fermilab’s Superconducting Quantum Materials and Systems Center (SQMS) is seeking a SQMS Editor. Responsibilities include working closely with the Communications & Partnership Manager to organize, produce, edit, and update internal and external communications for the Center. This includes news stories, social media updates, website content and other written and visual communications.

The SQMS Center was established by the National Quantum Initiative Act as a hub in a new cooperative ecosystem built from national labs, universities, and leading companies. The mission of the SQMS Center is to build revolutionary new quantum science platforms that exploit superconducting radio frequency cavities and superconducting qubits for quantum information science (QIS) in the areas of quantum computing, quantum sensing and quantum physics experiments.

You Will:
  • Produce, write, edit, lay out, and distribute assigned electronic and print publications and websites using knowledge of various software packages (i.e., WordPress, Microsoft Word, Adobe Photoshop).
  • Distribute information and interact with audiences through various mechanisms, including social media.
  • Develop story ideas, conduct interviews, and research information for written communication.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relations with various groups, including employees, collaborators, and partners.
  • Other duties as assigned by the reporting manager.
  • Abide by and be responsible for performing all duties in accordance with all environmental, health, and safety regulations and practices pertinent to this position.

Internal Communication
  • Support vehicle for two-way communication between center leaders and collaborators.
  • Assist center employees and managers in preparing internal communication materials and tools.
  • Work with Office of Communication staff members on print and online publications and multimedia services for internal audiences.
  • Support organization for employee events
  • Support coordination of visits and special events that involve citizens and local officials from neighboring communities.
  • Coordinate the production of assigned print and electronic publications and websites, including collaborating with graphic designers and web designers, proofreading the final copy, and overseeing printing or web production.
  • Interact with authors and other individuals to obtain graphics, illustrations, drawings, charts, photographs, or videos for inclusion on the Web and other publications.
  • Contribute effectively within a diverse workforce, and uphold Fermilab’s commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

We Are Looking For:
  • Bachelor’s Degree with a discipline in English, Communications and or Journalism plus a minimum 3+ years of experience.
  • Proficient in business writing, editing, proofreading, formatting methods, and graphic design.
  • Skilled in collaborating effectively within a team environment.
  • Strong computer skills, including expertise in web design.
  • Excellent communication skills for conveying ideas and collaborating with colleagues.
