Summary
The Bemidji Pioneer is seeking a Sports Reporter to collaborate with the Sports Editor innews-gathering efforts within the sports department, working to build a loyal, engaged audienceon multiple publishing platforms
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Coverage of a variety of high school and college sports, including an emphasis on prep andDivision II college football and basketball.
- Research and report on assigned teams, games and topics to produceunique story ideas and content that drive digital memberships and readerengagementfor both print and digital platforms.
- Drive audience loyalty and digital growth through engaging and timely content, and respond with urgency to breaking news.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Writing experience for a newspaper, website, magazine or specialty publication is
- Basic photography and photo editing experience is a plus.
- Some experience in proofreading or editing is preferred, with AP Style knowledge a plus.
- Journalism or communications degree is desired, though equivalent experience will be
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITY:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.
- Must be able to multitask and juggle many different projects in a fast-paced environment while adhering to deadlines.
- Ability to quickly and accurately publish content online through a website interface.
- Must be creative, hardworking, and a self-starter
