Supervisory Responsibilities:
Assists with coordinating the work of temporary personnel and outside groups conducting recreation activities
Minimum Education or Experience
High school graduate or GED required
Two or four year turf degree preferred
Experience in a related field preferred
Licensure or Certification
Valid driver's license
Possess and/or willing and able to obtain an Iowa certified pesticide applicators license
Have CDL or be willing to obtain

Basic knowledge of varsity field maintenance (practice fields not included), gymnasium, team locker area cleanliness.
Able to transport supplies and equipment from one location to another.
Able to operate equipment and tools in order to accomplish tasks.
Skillful in the correct use and maintenance of equipment
Skillful in minor equipment and building maintenance repairs.
Skillful in planning, organizing and prioritizing.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Good hand/eye coordination skills.
Able to respond to requests in a courteous and helpful manner.
Able to perform basic mathematical skills.
Able to read, write and interpret rules, reports and procedure manuals as required.
Able to recognize problems, determine causes, and take appropriate action for resolution.
Possess a valid Iowa Drivers' license.
Able to perceive identification numbers marked on material; read and understand numbers and volumes; and transcribe numbers.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials and manipulating things. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee frequently must perform physical activities that require squatting, stooping or kneeling, climbing, lifting, balancing, and reaching above the head and forward. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools, occasionally while climbing on ladders of various heights. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and waist more than the average person while performing the duties of this job. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Occasionally, the employee will lift and/or move up to 75 lbs. with assistance. The employee will sometimes push/pull items. Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must be able to transport supplies and equipment from one location to another.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works a combination of indoors and outdoors. Duties may need to be accomplished during evening and weekend hours. Work may be performed during inclement weather. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but may have occasional loud noises. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (other duties may be assigned)
- Arrange set up prior to all athletic events:
- Groom and Maintain playing fields
- Mow and trim designated areas
- Layout and painting of Soccer, Football, Discus and Shotput
- Chalking, dragging in-fields, mound repair during baseball/softball games
- Assist in maintaining regular, preventative maintenance programs for school athletic facilities and grounds
- Work cooperatively with administration and other District staff in situations involving athletic facilities
- General maintenance of district grounds to include:
- Mowing, trimming, fertilizing and spraying
- General maintenance of sidewalks, paths, parking lots and playgrounds
- Properly clean and store equipment after use
- Landscape installs
- Pour concrete
- Irrigation install
- Drainage install
- Building maintenance work-orders
- Make minor repairs to equipment to insure proper working condition to minimize down time and to make safety of the equipment a priority.
- Assist with irrigation schedules, repairs, start up and winterizing of athletic fields
- Operate equipment such as mowers, tractors, skid steer, line painter, utility vehicles, etc.
- Operate a motor vehicle for the purpose of picking up supplies, transporting needed equipment to designated facilities or maintaining athletic facility grounds
- Winter snow removal
- Regular and reliable attendance
- Other duties as assigned
