This person will be a natural collaborator who can tap into the existing infrastructure around the organization, working with NBC Sports, local stations, the Regional Sports Networks to deliver the best report to the NBCNews.com audience.

The direct team will include one to two reporters to start, and the editor will work closely with other teams across Digital. The set hours will be when sports happens - afternoon and evening hours from Thursday-Monday. This person will report to the Managing Editor for News.

Responsibilities:

  • Direct sports coverage for NBC News Digital by responding to breaking news and planning ahead for major events
  • Launch and manage live blogs
  • Edit and write the biggest sports news stories
  • Collaborate with reporters and editors to maximize existing resources
  • Make sure we have the best photos, videos and other visual elements to help tell our stories and that our headlines are sharp and engaging
  • Harness the power of search to develop articles
  • Maintain NBC News' editorial standards

Qualifications
  • 5+ years in journalism with experience as an editor or team leader
  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent years of relevant working experience
  • Skilled editor with outstanding communication skills
  • Expertise in writing SEO and optimizing stories for different platforms

Additional Requirements:

  • Interested candidate must submit a resume/CV through www.nbcunicareers.com to be considered.
  • It's preferred if this person is based in New York City, though fully remote employees will be considered. (Must be willing to travel as needed)
  • Must be willing and able to work flexible hours, under tight deadline pressure, including breaking news.

Hybrid: This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week.

This position is eligible for company sponsored benefits, including medical, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and a variety of other discounts and perks.
