About WHSV:
WHSV is located in Harrisonburg, Virginia situated in the Shenandoah Valley. Covering local sports is vitally important in our market. Over the past year especially, James Madison University has made national headlines with its football team dominating the Sun Belt and many of its other athletic programs becoming top-ranked teams. ESPN's College GameDay has hosted its live show from Harrisonburg three times in the last eight years, including in November 2023.
In recent years, WHSV Sports has been honored with various awards. We are no stranger to winning "Best Sports Operation of the Virginias", "Best Sports Anchor of the Year" and "Best Sports Feature" from the Virginias Associated Press Broadcasters. We've won the Virginia Association of Broadcasters and a regional Emmy for our sports coverage as well. Needless to say, storytelling is important at WHSV, therefore we're looking for someone who is passionate about local sports and understands what that means to our community.
WHSV Sports Franchises:
"Endzone" – for 30 years WHSV has been covering high school football on Friday nights in the fall. Our Weekend Sports Anchor is in charge of covering the Game of the Week and grabbing pre-game interviews with coaches. You would also co-anchor this wildly popular show with our established Sports Director.
"Fast Break Friday" - WHSV is debuting its new high school basketball show this winter. It will
feature highlights, scores, and a recap of all the local high school basketball games of the night/week. This will be our basketball equivalent to EndZone.
"Student-Athlete of the Week" – This is a weekly segment during the school year that highlights high school seniors who excel in the classroom and athletically. This franchise is over 30 years old and still a "fan favorite." The weekend SPORTS ANCHOR/REPORTER reports these stories and we end the year with a banquet with all the selected student-athletes in the spring.
