Job description

POSITION SUMMARY
The campus Spirit Store and Mailroom are housed in the brand-new Cutler Student Center facility. This position directs the operation of the spirt Store and Mailroom. Duties include: store management (sales records, inventory records, and equipment), product advertisement, expediting all university mail and supervision of staff.

This is an in-person position with some evening and weekend hours.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required:
Associate degree in a related field with 1-3 years’ experience in retail/management and/or a customer service-oriented field. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, carry, shelve items, bend and stretch in the performance of store operation.

Preferred:
Bachelor's degree in a related field with 5 or more years of experience in retail/management and or customer service-oriented field.

COMPENSATION
This is a full-time, 12-month, exempt position with a competitive salary, comprehensive benefits package, with generous paid holiday and leave time. Tuition programs available.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Process all vendor invoices for proper payment.
  • Work with faculty on book adoptions and communicate with MBS to maintain online bookstore.
  • Hire and train student workers.
  • Monitor sales and adjust merchandising concepts as appropriate for maximizing store sales.
  • Conduct periodic inventory counts as needed but at least annually.
  • Establish a customer service orientated atmosphere in the Spirit Store.
  • Maintain postal permits and accounts (presort, first class, bulk).
  • Maintain postal mail meter and student smart lockers.
  • Ensure the delivery and posting of incoming and outgoing mail.
  • Advise departments on postal or freight charges.
  • Check all incoming freight and mail for damages.
  • Audit monthly postage accounts for departments and prepare for business office.
  • Ensure that student mail and packages are properly handled and delivered.
  • Organize graduation cap & gown orders as well as honor cords.

PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Initiation and implementation of strategies for marketing Olivet Spirit Store.
  • Review and administer the store budget.
  • Selecting, training, scheduling, and supervising the student staff.
  • Organize textbook adoption requests and provide faculty training.
  • Provide recommendations relating to the effective administration of the store.
  • In charge of purchasing and maintaining adequate inventories in the store.
  • Sort and process mail, prepare invoices for accounts payable, maintain billing files.
  • Interpret daily sales transactions, balance daily sales, and provide sales data to Business Office.
  • This position requires an occasional expanded workweek and/or varying schedule.
  • Perform duties in a diverse, challenging, and occasionally stressful environment.
  • Ensure adequate postage exists on the postage meter.
  • Ensure student employees perform duties in a professional manner.
  • Ensure incoming and outgoing mail meets appropriate deadlines.
  • Oversee and manage day-to-day Spirit Store & mailroom operations.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is normally performed in an office environment. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, carry, shelve items overhead, bend and stretch in the performance of store operation.

HAZARDS:
Mainly those present in a normal office setting; no known hazards.
