We are seeking a SPELLING TO COMMUNICATE (S2C) PRACTITIONER for Students with Motor Differences.

(QC)Lab is a smart classroom in Northern California whose multidisciplinary staff is developing a personalized approach to educating different learners, one that is innovative, quantifiable and scalable. We structure education for STUDENTS who don’t respond to traditional teaching using diverse perspectives and rich, longitudinal data. (QC)Lab instructors—tutors, therapists, data analysts, and scientific researchers— explore how a student learns best by analyzing academic performance in relation to behavioral and biological data points. We tailor the curriculum to fit the student’s needs, not the student to fit the curriculum’s requirements.
THE OPPORTUNITY | Spelling to Communicate Practitioner
We are looking for a Spelling to Communicate (S2C) Practitioner to support a 26-year-old female student who is a talented writer with limited speech. Duties will focus on supporting her in academic work as well as social interactions. Onboarding for this position will include training in the Spelling to Communicate (S2C) communication methodology. Associate/Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience preferred. No prior Spelling to Communicate experience required.
QUALIFICATIONS + RESPONSIBILITIES
Our ideal candidate will be relentlessly curious about finding solutions for complex learning challenges, including curriculum design and student motivation; motivated to develop a career in a fast-growing field that provides valuable support to an underserved community– 1 in 30 children in the US have an autism diagnosis, and an estimated 30 percent of those individuals have communication challenges; driven to help non speaking students communicate with teachers and facilitate social interactions with others.
TRAINING: “SPELLING TO COMMUNICATE”
The successful candidate for this position will complete a probationary period of 90 days. In addition to day-to-day responsibilities, the candidate will embark upon the 6 month S2C Practitioner training which will be reimbursed. This part-time position is a 2-year contract-binding position with potential to become full-time. The candidate will be trained by (QC)Lab’s partner, The International Association of Spelling to Communicate (I-ASC) to help our students learn the purposeful motor skills necessary to spell, type and independently communicate.
