Requirements are:
- A graduate of an accredited institution of higher learning. The contractor, regardless of discipline must have obtained at least a master’s degree from an accredited institution of higher learning. Must have national certification in speech pathology from the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA).
- Possess the skills and ability to independently determine test instruments to be used for the diagnose children with speech and language related disorders; and to administer, score, and interpret the test; and determine diagnosis related to language development (total, expressive, receptive). Additionally, speech therapist should be competent in assessments related to the following areas related to speech development: articulation, phonology, stuttering in accordance with accepted professional standards of speech pathology.
- At least 2 years of experience within the past 5 years serving infants and toddlers with developmental delays or disabilities. At least 1 year of experience
providing services under IDEA to children of any age. - Have the knowledge, skills, and abilities to rightly evaluate children; assist and teach families; articulate the developmental needs of the child; consult with
families, care givers, and other professionals; explain the scope of services provided to families and county and state officials; and participate in team/group interactions, work groups, and decision making. - Shall hold current Healthcare Provider (HCP) Basic Life
Support (BLS) certification using American Red Cross guidelines or American Heart Association guidelines. Computer-based training does not constitute fulfilling the training requirements - Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a speech therapist.
