This position will be a 10 month position and will work at multiple school locations.
JOB GOAL:
To plan and provide speech-language pathology services to students with speech, voice or language disorders. Assess students and provide therapeutic intervention to eliminate or reduce problems or impairments that interfere with their students' ability to derive full benefit from the educational program.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's degree in speech-language pathology from an accredited college or university.
Valid license as a speech-language pathologist granted by the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Health Professions Board of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Participates in speech/language/voice/hearing screenings of kindergarten students and other students as required by state regulations.
2. Conducts independent evaluations to assess students with speech or language disorders and conditions and provides appropriate individual and group therapy to students consistent with speech and language goals contained in Individual Education Plans (IEP). Evaluates student progress and makes determinations regarding therapy services.
3. Collaborates with classroom teacher to implement therapy with suggestions for the student's daily activities.
4. Compiles, maintains and files all physical and computerized reports, records and other required documentation.
5. Assists in proper referrals of individuals to approved agencies and specialists in the community as appropriate.
6. Participates in eligibility and IEP meetings of students with possible speech/language impairments or students already on the caseload.
7. Maintains a high level of confidentiality of information about students.
8. Participates in in-service activities.
9. Designs and implements systems of augmentative communication for individual students who have little or no functional oral speech.
10. Attends classes, conferences and workshops needed for recertification and professional
11. Consults with colleagues, students and parents regarding the accomplishment of therapy goals, the needs of the student and involvement in remedial process and prepares progress reports at required intervals.
12. Participates in the selection of equipment and instructional materials.
13. Attends staff meetings as required.
14. Discharges all responsibilities and fulfills all obligations as specified in contract, policies and guidelines of the Floyd County School Board.
15. Maintains accurate, complete and correct records as required by laws, district policy and administrative regulation.
16. Provides professional development in assigned schools to help school personnel identify and work more effectively with students with communication deficits.
17. Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
18. Develops appropriate lesson plans for effective instruction.
19. Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of the student; and shows written evidence of preparation as requested by the principal.
20. Performs any other duties as assigned by supervisor or superintendent.

This position involves regular light lifting and carrying, occasional heavy lifting and positions of students with physical disabilities; controlling behavior through physical restraint; assisting non-ambulatory students.
