Title: Teacher Aide
Qualifications: 1. Completed at least two years, or 48 credit semester hours, at an institution of higher education; or
2. An associate or higher degree
3. Demonstrate through a state or local academic assessment knowledge of and the ability to assist
in the instruction of reading, writing, and math
Supervisor: Teacher and Principal
Job Duties:
- Model good reading, writing, and speaking skills for students.
- Work directly with students reinforcing skills taught by the teacher in basic language, mathematics, reading, and social skills.
- Work with individual or small groups to reinforce basic language, reading, mathematics, and social skills.
- Assist the classroom teacher on the playground in teaching and coaching physical activities that strengthen large motor skills.
- Follows daily schedule as outlined by the classroom teacher, assistant principal or principal.
- Assists in preparing material (e.g., charts, posters, board work, and correcting work), assists in displaying students' work, and distributes and collect papers.
- Supervises independent student study.
- Attends and participates in professional development activities.
- Follow directions of the principal, assistant principal and classroom teacher.
- Assists the classroom teacher with resources files, student unit, and learning centers.
- Accompany small groups of students to and from various locations within the school.
- Assists the lead teacher in the instructional planning process.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor
Terms of Employment: Salary and work year will be established by the Board.
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of Support Services Personnel.
Title: Bus Aide
Qualifications: 1. High School Diploma or equivalent
Supervisor: Director of Transportation
Job Duties:
- Assist the bus driver in maintaining discipline on school bus; monitor and assist students while bus is in operation.
- Consult with and assist bus driver in documentation of student information, recordkeeping and completing route surveys.
- Assist driver in assuring seat belts, harnesses and wheel chair clamps are secured as required.
- Assist parents and school personnel with safe loading and unloading of students; coordinate seating of pre-kindergarten students as required by State Transportation Guidelines.
- Communicate with classroom aides, teachers, principals, and parents concerning student background, medical problems and behavior as appropriate.
- Maintain current knowledge of Emergency Evacuation procedures.
- Assist special needs children on and off the bus and escort children across street upon return home; lift children as required; assure responsible adult meets students leaving the bus.
- Attend in-service meetings and training courses as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor
