ROLE AND PURPOSE: Work in the off-campus Rethink Redo Center, collaborating with paraprofessionals, Behavior interventionists, board-certified behavior analysts, Licensed Specialists in School Psychology, and others to implement evidence-based practices and student IEPs. Help to facilitate training of student-sending campus staff, including at least one administrator, on successful interventions as a part of student transition back to sending campus.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor's degree in a directly related field
  • Valid Texas teacher certificate with required Special Education endorsement or required training for subject and level assigned
  • Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) or Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) preferred

Experience:
  • One year of student teaching or an approved internship
  • Knowledge and Implementation experience in behavior shaping best practices and Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS) a MUST
  • Experience in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) preferred
  • Knowledge of CASEL competencies

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE OR SKILLS:

  • Ability to instruct students and teach functional replacement behaviors
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to effectively integrate assistive technology into the curriculum

  • Ability to analyze behavioral functions and teach replacement behaviors
  • Ability to design and implement communication, work systems, and behavior-shaping visuals for student use

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
I. INSTRUCTIONAL MANAGEMENT
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the district's curriculum and show written evidence of preparation as required.
  • Implement an instructional or skill development system for assigned students and show written evidence of preparation as required.
  • Work with other staff members to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with administrators, team leaders, and general education teachers to deliver IEP services and support.
  • Collaborate with students, parents, and other staff members to develop and monitor Individual Education Plans (IEP) progress through the IEP meeting process for each assigned student.
  • Plan and use various instructional strategies, activities, materials, technology, and equipment that consider students' individual learning styles, communication, and social-emotional needs.
  • Collect and utilize data to:
    • make informed decisions
    • monitor student academic and social-emotional progress
    • adjust services and supports.
  • Work to ensure access to grade-level instruction and individualized specially designed instruction and interventions to foster the educational, social, emotional, and functional success of students currently served in the off-campus behavior center.
  • Prepare, collaborate, and participate actively in IEP committee meetings.
  • Contact the student's teachers regularly to secure assignments and any special information needed to provide engaging instruction and meet the student's needs.
  • Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aide(s).

II. SCHOOL/ORGANIZATION CLIMATE

  • Perform duties effectively and efficiently to support and contribute to high student achievement.
  • Consult with stakeholders on all general administration items, including personnel policies.
  • Attend and participate in campus meetings and transition meetings for students.
  • Comply with the Professional Code of Ethics and Standard Practices of Texas Educators.

III. SCHOOL/ORGANIZATIONAL IMPROVEMENT
  • Complete with accuracy and maintain all required physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents.
  • Attend training as required by the job assignment and district/campus improvement plan.

IV. ADMINISTRATION AND FISCAL/FACILITIES MANAGEMENT
  • Operated office equipment, assistive technology, and classroom technology and used district-required system/software.
  • Maintain classroom organization and cleanliness.
  • Comply with all district policies, operating procedures, legal regulations, and verbal and written requirements.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

V. STUDENT MANAGEMENT
  • Interact with students professionally, calmly, and intentionally using language for teaching and de-escalation.
  • Implement individual student Behavior Intervention plans (BIP) for student academic and social-emotional success.
  • Assist students across all settings according to their needs, including, if required, safe transfer to and from wheelchairs, lifting, positioning, and use of assistive technology.

VI. SCHOOL/COMMUNITY RELATIONS
  • Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences and staffing with parents, students, and other stakeholders.
  • Maintain professional relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  • Ensure all interactions with students, district personnel, and parents are supportive, courteous, and respectful.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information per FERPA requirements.

VII. PHYSICAL DEMANDS
An employee must meet the physical demands described here to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. Reasonable accommodations will be made if necessary:
  • While performing the duties of a classroom teacher, the employee may frequently be required to stoop, reach, stand, walk, lift, pull, push, grasp, talk, hear, see, and use repetitive physical motions.
  • While performing these job duties, the employee may frequently be required to lift and/or move at least 50 pounds of materials, transition children from wheelchairs onto changing tables, etc.
  • While performing the duties of the job assignment, the employee may frequently be required to utilize strategies to de-escalate aggressive behaviors, including safe, non-harmful physical restraint procedures.

VIII. PROFESSIONAL GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT
  • Participate in training focusing on areas such as maintaining hygiene, communication systems, specific teaching methodologies, assistive technology, lifts and transfers, first aid, CPR, TBSI online training, and district-approved de-escalation training as required by the job assignment.
  • Seek professional learning to support student needs relevant to role and responsibility.
  • Participate in professional learning to continue quality job performance and support professional goals.

IX. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Supervise students in all environments, including during bus duty, building/playground duty, lunch duty, and co-curricular activities.
  • Plan assignments, schedules, and daily work tasks to support and guide paraprofessionals.

X. MISCELLANEOUS
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Receive necessary vaccinations to prevent contracting and spreading infectious diseases, such as Hepatitis.
  • Wear appropriate equipment for safe lifts and transfers.
