Location: 582 Monroe Rd Suite 1412 Sanford, FL 32771 ( This position will be based at our new Apopka mail order pharmacy effective February 2024 )

The role you'll contribute:

The Specialty Pharmacist, as the specialty medication expert, provides the highest quality pharmaceutical care to the patients of Adventist Health System specialty pharmacy.  This role will primarily be working with the RX Plus Pharmacy Specialty Department.  Duties will include providing monitoring and care for patients through the specialty medication process.  The Specialty Pharmacist reviews prescriptions for accuracy and takes appropriate steps for clarification or correction if necessary.  The Specialty Pharmacist monitors daily workflow and works with specialty pharmacy team to meet production goals and complete specialty prescriptions.  Assures that medication, supplies, delivery, and follow-up are done appropriately.  Communicates with the patient/physician as needed regarding drug interactions, medication identification, sensitivities, allergies, and all issues regarding safety and wellbeing of the patient.  Oral and written communications require sensitivity, good judgment, and a caring attitude be displayed in every situation.

  •          Available during specialty department business hours to meet the needs of patients.  Arrives at workstation at scheduled time.
  •          Oversees specialty department staff by following standard operating procedures for receiving, filling, dispensing, logging and maintaining loss prevention controls.
  •          Supervises specialty department staff in prescription processing to ensure that all medications and supplies are dispensed according to regulatory requirements and shipped to the appropriate address.
  •          Utilizes most current Specialty Plan Prior Authorization (PA) criteria to facilitate new PA requests and PA renewals as necessary.
  •          Assists in multiple pharmacist roles, including IVR/phone prescriptions, prescription clarifications, prescription transfers, pharmacist verification 1 (PV1), and pharmacist verification 2 (PV2).
  •          Provides support and education to specialty technician staff to decrease overall error rate in the order entry and fulfillment processes and communicates concerns to the Specialty Pharmacy Manager.
  •          Partners with other departments as needed for timely resolution of request/inquiries about specialty medications.  Follows up on requests to ensure they were handled appropriately and in a timely manner.
  •          Accepts incoming telephone requests from plan members for medication consultation, patient education, and other specialty medication inquires.
  •          Assists in training and orientation of new specialty department employees, participates in quality improvement programs and educational activities.
  •          Aids in working to maximize savings and minimize costs in following with the prescription plan benefits.
  •          Flexes to assist with non-specialty pharmacy tasks as assigned by Specialty Pharmacy Manager or Clinical Director.  Accepts other duties and projects as assigned by Specialty Pharmacy Manager or Clinical Director. 

The expertise and experiences you'll need to succeed:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  •          A graduate of an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy with a BS Pharmacy degree. 
  •          3-5 years professional experience in pharmacy setting or a Pharmacy Practice Residency (PGY-1).

 

 EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

  •          A graduate of an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree.
  •          Advanced Pharmacy Residency (PGY-2) or Fellowship experience.
  •          1 year of specialty or clinical pharmacy experience
  •          Bilingual preferred

 

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:

  •          Licensed in the State of Florida to practice Pharmacy
  •          Must complete state required bi-annual continuing education requirements for licensure

 

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, OR REGISTRATION PREFERRED:

  •          Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) certification
  •          Pharmacist preceptor for schools of pharmacy
