Upper School (Grades 5-8) French Teacher
Start Date: August 26, 2024 5 Days / Week Salary: 60K–115KBank Street School for Children seeks a full-time French Teacher to begin in the 2024/25 school year. We seek a dynamic, collaborative, and innovative French educator who is committed to the continued development of a cohesive World Language program. The teacher will be responsible for delivering an engaging French language curriculum from Grades 5 to 8. Please note that we do not offer sponsorship for candidates who need visas to work in the United States.
Hours : The hours are 8 AM to 4 PM Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday and 8 AM to 5 PM on Wednesdays to join schoolwide faculty meetings.
General Requirements:
Qualified candidates will possess a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in French or a related field, and have at least 3-5 years teaching experience. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of child development related to 10-14 year olds, and recognize the joys of working with middle school students.

Responsibilities:
- Plan and document well-structured, differentiated lessons appropriate to the abilities of all students and the curriculum being taught that are consistent with progressive pedagogy
- Make sure that the classroom is a stimulating environment that facilitates communication
- Generate enthusiasm for the subject being taught and inspire all students to work to their potential
- Liaise with the Upper School Division Head, Upper School Learning Specialist, Upper School Mental Health & Wellness Counselor and World Language Team leader around curriculum, social-emotional needs, and academic needs
- Collaborate with the Upper School Spanish teacher to ensure a comparable experience for students taking French and Spanish
- Promote high standards of behavior by encouraging a positive, proactive approach to studying and build productive relationships with students
- Assign homework which is appropriate in terms of volume and learning goals
- Assess student’s work accurately and regularly, giving thoughtful and meaningful feedback.
- Keep curricular materials up to date and systematically housed within the school’s designated system where they are accessible to others
- Communicate with families about student progress as needed via email, phone call, or in-person meetings
- Complete student progress reports in the winter and spring according to guidelines and deadlines
- Attend World Language Department, Upper School, and School for Children Faculty Meetings, as well as other meetings which arise during the school year
- Participate in faculty affinity groups and engage in self-examination of identity
- Demonstrate a commitment to the principles of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion through curriculum and instruction
- Attend to other duties as assigned which support the school, including but not limited to: assigned bus duties, cafeteria duties, recess duties, ad hoc substituting, homeroom advisory, etc.
