Job Summary
The successful candidate must maintain a comprehensive knowledge of OSHA regulations, implement policies and ensures compliance with safety standards. The candidate will serve as the primary safety and health resource for plant employees, share best practices with the fleet and coordinates initiatives with corporate safety. Supporting plant management in the implementation of the Southern Company safety and health program will also be required.
Job Requirements
Bachelor's Degree or higher in Occupational Safety and Health or a relevant field preferred
Experience working in an industrial environment or fossil fueled power generating plant is desired
Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) is a plus
Working knowledge of industrial safety, including accident prevention techniques, personal protective equipment, behavior based safety and engineering control measures
Working knowledge of fire detection and protection systems and applicable NFPA requirements
Working knowledge of emergency medical treatment procedures, including confined space rescue, hazmat and first responder is a plus
Ability to identify, analyze and address safety issues
Proficient at leading and participating in safety event learnings
Strong oral and written communication skills and ability to deliver effective presentations and training
Strong leadership, teamwork and interpersonal skills required
Proven high level of integrity through ethical behavior
Job Responsibilities
Assists in the development, coordination and implementation of plant safety and health strategies, policies, initiatives and action plans
Monitors and assesses the effectiveness of the implementation of the plant's safety and health programs
Identifies safety and health training needs, assists in program development, coordinates and monitors training delivery and delivers training as qualified
Assists supervision in the learning Safety event Learnings and recommends corrective actions to prevent recurrence
Prepares reports that clearly communicate findings, conclusions and recommendations
Facilitates and ensures the effectiveness of the plant Safety Committee
Promotes a high level of safety and health awareness through actions and effective communication with individuals and groups
Leads the Employee Emergency Response Team and ensures that all members stay current on membership compliance requirements/qualifications
Executes system ownership responsibilities for the plant fire system
The successful candidate must be available for call outs, holidays and weekends. Candidate must be able to adapt to changing work duties, be able to work with limited supervision and must be able to perform successfully in an individual and team environment. Must be able to work in extreme climates and environments (e.g., cold, hot, dusty, humid).
