We are currently seeking a Special Olympics Soccer coach and Special Olympics Track & Field coach to run our Spring season. We are looking for someone with experience with the sport and working with individuals with a disability. This position will be scheduled for one evening a week and one weekend day a season for a regional competition.
Hiring Range: $17.60 - $20.71/hour
Salary Range: $17.60 - $23.82/hour
Essential Required Tasks/Examples of Duties
- In charge of leading seasonal Special Olympics sport programs.
- Work with participants who have a wide variety of intellectual and/or physical disabilities.
- Supervises volunteers, and participants during programs.
- Develops the program plan for practices and games.
- Responsible for necessary equipment provided for sports programs.
- Assists Program Coordinator with development, implementation and evaluation of a variety of educational, social, recreational, programs and activities for individuals with disabilities. Activities may include but are not limited to Special Olympics, fitness programs, independent living skills, arts & crafts, and outings in the community.
Minimum Qualifications
Training - High school graduate or GED equivalent. Current, valid AED, First Aid and CPR Certifications preferred. Some college-level education in recreation, physical education, or education preferred. CTRS certification preferred.
Experience - Previous experience in an organized recreation program and experience working with the public in providing customer service preferred.

Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides evidence that the applicant possesses the Necessary Applicant Traits.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: - Must be at least 18 years of age. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a safe driving record for continued employment. AED, First Aid and CPR certifications must be obtained within 30 days of employment and must be maintained for continued employment. New hires must, as a condition of employment, pass the following pre-offer and post-offer/hire processes: oral board, reference checks, background checks including local police check and sex offender registry, driving record check through DMV.
Working Conditions
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job. The noise level in the environment is moderate. Work is scheduled for a variety of hours including evenings, weekends and holidays. Working in the Recreation Services Division may require indoor and outdoor activities. The incumbent is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, and may be exposed to a variety of potential safety hazards. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; run, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl or swim.
