Reports To: Superintendent of Schools, Principal/Assistant Principal of School, Assistant Director of Schools-Special Programs, and Chief Deputy of Special Services.
Salary Schedule: Certified Pay Scale
Education/Experiences:
- Valid teacher's license with appropriate endorsement;
- Strong written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal skills; and
- Meets health and physical requirements.
Summary: To improve access to the core curriculum for students with disabilities through individualized intervention and instruction. The Special Education Teacher is also responsible for maintaining required documents and conducting all necessary actions as outlined through federal and state regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plans collaboratively with general Education Teachers to ensure access to core curriculum.
- Prepares lessons and other materials using all available data while considering factors such as individual needs, goals, abilities, learning levels and other pertinent information.
- Instructs students in core curriculum, using various teaching methods such as scaffolding, differentiation, audiovisual aids and other materials to supplement presentation.
- Collects data to evaluate progress, records results, and issues reports to inform parents of student progress.
- Provides a continuum of services as documented in student IEP (Individualized Education Program).
- Provide intense, evidence-based intervention with fidelity.
- Establishes positive parent, teacher and student relationships.
- Uses positive behavior supports and interventions to maintain student behavior.
- Participates in faculty and department meetings, educational conferences, and appropriate teacher training workshops.
- Maintains availability to students and parents for education-related meetings outside the instructional day when requested.
- Represents the school to the community in a positive manner.
- Maintains necessary records and completes necessary actions in a timely manner as outlined through federal and state regulations.
- Have the ability to be flexible with scheduling.
- Adheres to the Washington County Schools' Employee Code of Conduct.
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisors.
The usual job demands heavy lifting over 60 lbs., occasionally (over 15% and up to 40 % of the time) within the classroom environment. Other physical demands that may be required are as follows:

- Assist in lifting students who need extra help with their physical needs

- Intelligence: The ability to understand instructions and underlying principles. Ability to reason and make judgments.
- Verbal: Ability to understand meanings of words and the ideas associated with them.
- Numerical: Ability to perform arithmetic operations quickly and accurately.
- Manual Dexterity: Ability to move the hands easily and manipulate small objects with the fingers rapidly and accurately.
- Form perception: To make visual comparisons and discriminations and see slight differences in shapes and shadings of figures.
- Color Discrimination: Ability to perceive or recognize similarities or differences in colors or shades or other values of the same color.

Terms of Employment:
Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the Washington County School's approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the district.
