Job Description
Education & Certification:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education or a related field with state teaching license
- Preferred: Special Education Certification; Learning Behavior Specialist Endorsement, Master’s Degree
Experience/Skills:
- Experience working with children and families in a trauma-informed environment
Position Summary: This role involves teaching academic and social skills to students within a private educational system. The Special Education Teacher will collaborate with therapists, teacher assistants, adjunctive therapists, and other members of the treatment team. External communication includes interaction with parents/guardians, public or private schools, treatment providers, and referral agency personnel.
Essential Duties:
- Instruct assigned learners in designated locations
- Create conducive learning environments
- Establish clear student objectives and communicate them effectively
- Administer, interpret, and record standardized tests
- Employ various instructional techniques
- Maintain professional competence
- Attend staff meetings and serve on committees if required
- Adhere to program policies and procedures
- Evaluate student progress and conduct observations
- Assist with physical tasks and health-related procedures as needed
- Utilize learning aids, including multimedia and technology resources
- Participate in diagnostic team meetings and eligibility conferences
- Implement research-based intervention programs
- Lead and attend IEP and/or 504 plans as necessary
- Operate teaching aids such as computers and Smart Boards
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking effectively
- Ability to apply mathematical concepts and statistical analysis
- Strong reasoning ability and problem-solving skills
- Possess a valid class E Missouri driver’s license and a good driving record
