SALARY LEVEL:$35,732 - $44,625 (depends on degree level, recognize up to 12 years experience, Full Benefit Package)
REPORTS TO:Building Principal/Special Education Director
DEFINITION:
Under limited supervision, provides educational instruction in assigned area(s) of specialty, grade and program level in compliance with approved academic standards and curriculum for Somerton Elementary School District.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serves and provides specialized services to students with disabilities; Plans and implements a program of instruction that adheres to the district philosophy, goals and objectives as outlined in the adopted course study: Plans and implements a program of study designed to meet individual needs of students; Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning by employing a variety of appropriate teaching strategies; demonstrate a strong grasp of subject matter; uses effective oral and written expression; develops, in accordance with district school guidelines, reasonable rules of classroom behavior and appropriate techniques that are consistently applied; establish clear objectives for all lessons, unites, and projects, and communicate those objectives to student; instruct students individually and in groups, using various teaching methods such as lectures, discussions, and demonstrations; prepare, administer, and grade tests and assignments in order to evaluate student progress; confer with other staff members to plan and schedule lessons promoting learning, following approved curricula; confer with parents or guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators in order to resolve student behavioral and academic problems; maintain accurate and complete student records as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations; administer individual and group assessments needed for evaluation and/or district data collection.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Knowledge of characteristic and teaching methodologies for students with exceptionalities.
Knowledge of problem-solving and conflict resolution techniques and strategies.
Strong listening skills.
Ability to work with a variety of individuals possessing a variety of needs.
Ability to supervise assigned support staff.
Skill in oral and written communications.
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree, preferably in Special Education
Hold Arizona State Teacher Certification or eligible to obtain same
Considered Appropriately Certified by Arizona Department of Education to teach appropriate grade/subject.

Work is performed in an indoor environment. Work requires frequent standing, walking, and may assist in handling of students with physical limitations
