Position: Special Education Learning Support Teacher - Long-Term Sub (Anticipated opening)Position Type: Full-TimeLocation: Watertown Middle SchoolReports to: Principal & DirectorSalary range: $339.84 per diemTime Frame: Anticipated need from 4/4/2024-End of the School Year Summary: Watertown Middle School seeks an outstanding Special Education Teacher to instruct students with intellectual and related developmental disabilities in a substantially separate classroom setting, with opportunities to include students in general education classrooms as appropriate. Qualified candidates will present evidence of expertise and experience in the following areas: Common Core and MA state curriculum frameworks; evaluation and assessment procedures and report writing; development of Individual Education Programs (IEPs); completion of IEP Progress Reports; meaningful inclusive teaching practices for students with moderate to intensive special needs including Universal Design for Learning and co-teaching strategies; knowledge of evidence-based methodologies for instruction for students with intellectual disabilities including total communication techniques; ability to embed instruction in activities of daily living within the academic framework; effective communication and collaborative relationship building with colleagues and parents; knowledge of Special Education process and procedures as well as pre-referral mandates and eligibility criteria. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The essential functions or duties listed below are illustrations of the type of work that is performed and is not an exhaustive list of the duties performed for by this position. Other duties may be assigned. The responsibilities include:Plan and provide high-quality content instruction to students with disabilities that is modified to their instructional level according to their IEPs.Monitor and evaluate students' academic, social, and behavioral progress and record student growth and outcomesDesign and carry out developmentally appropriate, motivating curriculum/programming as required by Common Core/ MA Curriculum Frameworks and in accordance with each student's IEPAdapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needsCreate an environment that is positive for student learning and involvementMaintain appropriate standards of behavior, mutual respect and safetyCollect, analyze and maintain academic data on all students; and other data if/ as required (social/ behavioral)Maintain effective communication with administrators, parents, counselors, and related service providersServe as a liaison for a caseload of students; to include formal and informal testing as part of the Special Education evaluation cycle; writing assessment reports to present at IEP Team meetings; writing the IEP; and writing quarterly progress reports on IEP goals and objectivesProvide consultation to general education teachers regarding individual students' needs, goals, and learning styleStay current in MCAS requirements for students with disabilities, including preparation of MCAS-Alt portfolios and state and federal guidelines regarding how students with disabilities should participate in testingProvide direct oversight of all Instructional Assistants assigned to the program either as classroom assistants or student-specific assistants recommended by IEP Team QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
