The Special Advisor forSpiritual Life Education and Outreach (“Special Advisor”) will work within New York University’s Division of Student Affairs and the Center for Global Spiritual Life to connect the important work of Global Inclusion Diversity Equity Belonging and Access (Global IDBEA) to the needs of spiritual, religious, secular, and interfaith students on campus. The role of the Special Advisor is to serve in a cross-functional and community-facing capacity, partnering across the Global Network University with the offices of Academic Affairs in each school, Student Services, Office of Equal Opportunity, and the Office of Global Inclusion, Diversity, and Strategic Innovation, to offer consultative and educational services on issues of religious inclusion, religious literacy, accommodations, and anti-discrimination.
Bachelor's Degree
Preferred Education:
Master's Degree in Education, Public Policy, Religions Studies, Communications, or related field.
Required Experience:
5+ years of relevant experience in an academic or corporate environment or equivalent combination.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills, along with an ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of constituencies within the university and beyond. Strong leadership skills and ability to be an effective community builder. Knowledge of diverse religious and spiritual traditions. Advanced understanding of how universities function. Familiarity with working with Offices of Equal Opportunity and/or related entities with regards to legal issues facing universities around discrimination, hate speech, etc. as well as university principles surrounding academic freedom and student activism, and a deep understanding of intersectionality and intersectional issues.
