Summary:

Provide accurate interpretation and translation of critical healthcare information in direct service to health, dental, and behavioral health care staff members who are working with Spanish speaking patients who have limited understand or cannot speak, read, or understand English.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Precisely and accurately interprets critical medical advice and information given by the provider into equivalent terminology in the patient's native language.
• Assists in translating text from English to Spanish and Spanish to English; may translate patient education and other materials or information as specifically requested.
• Establishes and maintains quality service and positive interaction with all patients, customers, visitors, health care providers, and clinical employees.
• Assists with patient follow-up as necessary, to include contacting patients with appointment reminders.
• Maintains strict patient confidentiality in accordance with established policies and standards.
• Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements:

• High school diploma or GED
• Interpreter/Translator Certificate and/or Certificate of Competency from an approved training program preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

• Fluency in both verbal and written Spanish

• Knowledge of medical terminology and procedures.
• Ability to precisely and accurately translate critical healthcare information from English to Spanish and Spanish to English.
• Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and customer service orientation.
• Excellent Listening skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information.
• Ability to interact and communicate with people over the telephone, often in stressful situations.

Schedule:

• 8 hour shift
• Monday to Friday
